    Hey folks,

I keep hearing about a "Brake Saver" file when getting an ECM tune done. What is this? Does it make the Jakes work better or something?

    Thanks for the edumication!!:biggrin_2558:

A brakesaver file was written for a truck/engine that had a brakesaver on it...it will have a touch more timing and a touch more fuel...to overcome the parasitic loss of the brakesaver...so the truck will dyno the same as one without the brakesaver....so installing it on one without gives you more power due to the additional fuel and timing. Does nothing to help jakes or brakes.

The extra fuel is added to the brake saver files to compensate for the extra rotating mass of the actual brake saver unit.

It is a type of retarder, its in the flywheel housing and works off of oil pressure. They are known to leak more then they are worth.
