I plan on driving my 379 bobtail down to Texas and flat tow my colorado with to drive back. Was told by an RV dealer that I need a brake setup to apply brakes on the colorado which is about 4 grand installed on colorado. Is there any truth to this? Anyone encounter this before?

I certainly wouldn’t do it for one trip. But in fact if it’s flat towed it is supposed to have brakes applied. Looks like most states are anything over 3k.

Price seems steep. Do it yourself or shop around.

it would be cheaper to rent a trailer and load the Colorado. would need to wire up an electric brake controller. or try and set the Colorado on the back of the truck if wheelbase allows.

or what I would do... flat tow, haul ### and play stupid

4K doesn’t sound unreasonable. I had a Blue Ox setup when I had my 31’ class a coach. Was very pricey 14 years ago and I imagine it’s a whole lot more nowadays.

Check out Blue Ox towing bars..they sell the brake systems also.
You can also find them on ebay used.

Rent a car trailer that is equipped with ‘surge brakes’.

Rent a trailer, it is safer for your truck.

I have a couple of beater trucks for moving trucks; they can be flat towed because they are manuals with old four speeds, and they have covered thousands of miles behind bobtails without issues other than a couple of flat tires.

I used to flat tow my Silverado with no additional brakes all the time. Only had tow lights hooked up to my pig tail. Had a hitch on the front. Almost looked like an attachment for a plow when driving around. Most states do require some extra braking but I did it anyway. If you have an open deck trailer you can hwve a rollback do a transload to get it on/off your trailer for about 100 on each end. U haul trailers are even cheaper if you have the receiver for it.
