I have never trusted "self adjusting" .... once I week minimum I would make sure they were in adjustment .... there are steps that ya need to do if I remember correctly to adjust them "self adjusting" ones
I just dont remember what they were .... I just adjust them myself to ensure they are good
-
My neighbor (who's an O/O for years) told Mike and I to always check self-adjusting brakes and showed Mike what to look for and all. They reaffirmed this in his school during training.
I guess "self-adjusting" is not all it says it is. -
He adjusted them in Phoenix, and when he got to San Bernardino... they were out of adjustment again.
-
How far is that? And whose truck is it? This is always the trucker's fault? How often are you SUPPOSED to check them?
Sounds like someone's out to get your hubby... he gets stopped a LOT. Sucks!!!!!! -
I keep saying that he has a sign stuck on the back of that trailer that screams "STOP ME!!" every time he goes past any form of law enforcement.
-
Sure seems that way
-
depending on what company it is it's there sign that is screaming it.
If they are self adjusting brakes then why did he adjust them? you can't really adjust self adjusting slack adjusters, well you can but not like the non self adjusting ones because you can't back them off.
So I assume he either doesn't know what he is doing or the slackadjusters are bad. they will "unadjust" themselves sometimes when they go bad. -
M&M the DOT will tell you can't adjust em but you can. They'll just click when you back them off.
I even had the best mechanic I know show me how to adjust brakes. He's been wrenching for over 20 yrs and is the only mechanic I trust with my engine. -
Like Brickman said, self-adjusting slacks can be set up manually. Different
makes have slightly different procedures, but all similar. They do need regular
lubrication to keep them freed up as well as regular usage (usually not a
problem, but some of us do use Jake more than service) to keep them self-
adjusted.
