Hello Drivers. I just want to say I have a big respect for all of you drivers out there and I appreciate all of the miles you all lay down to keep this country's wheels turnin. I'll always let you merge over into my lane before trying to blast around you first.

I have just bought a Cobra 29 LTD Classic radio and it came with an antenna. I enjoy listening to CB radio talk and even joining in sometimes when I'm able. I'm not sure what brand of antenna it is, but it's only about 2 feet long. I don't believe I can reach more than a mile or two in good conditions.

I'm wanting a decent upgrade. Something that is (preferably but not necessarily) still magnet-mounted. What is a decent antenna I should buy? Is there anything I need to buy besides the antenna?

    Thanks for the assistance.

    Brendon

    I don't think I've seen anything bad about Wilson's line of antenna's.
I have to use a no ground plane antenna because my mobile is a motor home so I use a Firestik. With my Grant and Trucker 150 and Astatic mic I get out as far and as I need to.
    I haven't had a trucker know I was in a 6 wheeler yet.
For about 30 years I've had a Firestik on two campers and a K40 permanent mount on my pickem up truck without a camper on or when I had a 5ver on.
If I was you I would get at least the Wilson 1000.
With a good SWR you'll do fine.
My daily driver is a Vette and a mag mount won't work. I'm not gonna bubba up my baby for a CB.

Wilson 1000, the last antenna you'll ever buy, more than worth the money you'll spend on it.

I'm not sure how long you have been running that Wilson 1000...But if it is less than a year old, don't expect it to last much more than a few more months! Since Barjan bought out the Wilson line of antenna's, the quality of the antenna's has gone down the tubes! Most will develop rust in the coil section and short-out within the first year...

BrendonTW, you didn't say what this was going on, or where your wanting to mount it, but some of the most popular antenna's on the market right now, are the "Open-Coil" type antenna's...Some of the most popular Open Coiled antenna's are"

    Predator 10K
    Bad Boy
55's or the "R4" from FatBoy
    Mr. Coily
Monkey Made (which is a bit on the heavy side)

These antenna's handle just about any amount of power you can throw at them, and are made from Air Craft Aluminum so they can last practically forever...

Is there any way you can determine if your Wilson was made by Barjan or not?

I bought a used 1000 over a year ago. It works great, only problem is sometimes the coax plug comes off.

Hey. If you dont mind the the length i would get a tram tri mag mount and a 102" whip with a 6" barrel spring. This can all be bought for about as much as a 1000. But still the 1000 is a real nice antenna. I have used them and they are really really good antennas. Have fun with the cb.
