these people really need to spend a month in a truck!!!!! I for one get more tired just sitting around in truck, truckstop then driving down the road.

For those of us that go to Canada a lot I can see this getting even more complicated with two very different sets of rules. And I'm sure the Canadian drivers will really like getting their allowed daily driving hours cut back even more. Log violations and CSA points against drivers will increase substantially. They're making a set of rules that are not impossible to follow, but not at all practical in the real world if we are to be productive at all. All this would be nice if there was a way to increase our rates/wages to make up for the reductions in productivity that will follow.
It will help if drivers will send well written objections during the comment period, offering suggestions and alternatives to what is proposed, rather than just whining about how bad it will be. Without offering a solution any objections are meaningless. This is where drivers have a chance to be heard, but alas, hardly any will take the time to express their opinions where it actually will do some good.Last edited: Dec 23, 2010
Native Dancer and LostOne9 Thank this. -
Makes me wonder that they design the wording to generate more money in fines. They might as well write it in Russian or pig latin or something. You have to do this, BUT, see below, ONLY if, see below again and then if you are regional you can take a 34 hr by taking 6 hours twice only between midnight and 6am, not 6:15am or 11:45pm. That adds up to 34 if the batteries are weak on your calculator, see below again, only if they are Duracells....
16 hours on duty will give them more rest. Yeah that's the ticket.
LaHood has lost his mind.
It's open for public comment if you can understand it. Where can I comment? I know see below and only between 12-6am. -
So if you started your 34 hour reset at 1 am it would have to be a 53 hour reset.
So when I get home for the weekend, if I want to make sure I get 2 full days off I just have to make sure it's after midnight once I finish up.halfburn Thanks this. -
With the 34 hour reset as complicated as the split berth and the split berth getting even more difficult to figure we're going to need electronic logs to keep us on track.

I see the next move to ban cell phones from trucks completely, just like radar detectors. La Hood is on a campaign that's for sure. I've heard some interviews he has done and he is completely out of touch with the real world. Its really easy to drive a truck from behind a desk, out here its a whole different world. Who knows where all this regulation coming at us from all directions is going to take the industry, and our jobs, in the next year or two.

America is in debt past its eyeballs. Unemployment remains stuck near double digits. Small and large businesses, unions and insurers are clamoring for Obamacare waivers in droves. Jihadists are making a mockery of homeland security. And border chaos reigns. So, what's one of the Obama administration's top domestic policy agenda items this month? Combating distracted drivers.
