Very easy to do in the drop and hook world and running full tilt.

    13 hour days with a 34.

It's funny though, they act like they are really concerned about fatigued driving yet none of them work over 8 hours a day. They try to keep a happy balance between transportation cost and deaths. God forbid a driver working normal hours for normal pay. They couldn't afford all the luxuries they have then.

Why would you do two restarts in a week? I barely do one every two to three weeks. It's not even an issue for an OTR driver.

wstrob, I think you made a good attempt but are confused like alot of us. The 7 hr thing? The restart stipulations?
I guess the third time you need a nap you are screwed with the two- 16 hr days.

Many don't take the time to read and see if there are other threads. They find something out and run and post. It clutters the forum and makes the moderators work harder.

I thought I read that the 16 hour rule is only for "regional" drivers...not OTR drivers. That would stay at 14...or 13?

I just was in a situation where I did a second restart, but that was because I had the time on the load and wanted to make sure I had the hours available to get some miles before going home for Christmas. Didn't matter though, Roehl screwed the pooch and I ended up losing 1000 miles, but I do get to spend a couple extra days with the family.

From what I can tell, the biggest issue for me is the mandatory break after seven hours, but at least it isn't the two hour break that had been rumored, thirty minutes should be easy to handle at least if you still keep a paper log.

If I understand the new rule, we will be able to legally log off duty/sb when sitting even though we aren't technically in the sleeper.

No, it's still not possible to drive 77 hours in a week (or even 74) unless you never do a PTI or fuel or load/unload....all of that has to be logged. In your scenario, your driver is only counting drive time. No diesel bear is going to accept the idea of 6 days without a PTI. In those 6 days, that will be a minimum of 1.5 hours burned right there. Add to that the time logged fueling and doing dock stuff.

Although I can almost understand the faulty math now.

It is one. But the driving time is now a 13 hour window in the 14 hour day.

I think I understand the 2 restarts in a week thing.....

A week starts at midnight Sunday and goes till Saturday at midnight..... Say I leave the house Sunday and run till Wednesday, then get stuck sitting for 34 hrs or more waiting on a load. As things are now that would be considered a restart and have 70 hrs again. Now I may have only used 35 of them up working till Wednesday but say come Thursday night at 2200hrs I would have a new 70 to go.

Sounds to me like they are trying to make it so all drivers get home on weekends or atleast two days a week. In reality it isn't going to happen, its just gonna make more people set out on the road longer.
