    Interesting.
When I posted a few months ago that this would happen, everyone poo pood it, saying I was crazy.
    Well, here it is.
Next will be the efforts to get rid of the small trucking companies. Just like the banks, the airlines and so many other industries.
Easier to control a few big ones, than a bunch of small ones.
And easier to shake down for political donations.

The outcome will be that the government will help pay for large carriers to convert, while the little guy will maybe see a small tax deduction for complying.

Just like any other "bill" in this current Congress...getting this through committee, debate, and up to vote in one house will be an obstacle to say the least...to get it through both houses (especially with the "mid-term" election) will be considered a modern day miracle.

The fight will be from the small independent companies/individuals joined by OOIDA. The "supporting cast will include every "mega company" as they are already set up with QuallComm or another "type" of communication system. The cost to configure not only the units on each truck, but the system within the office must meet the "communication design" of whatever system the company would choose. One more step to push the Independent Contractor and small (10-30 units) out of the competition.

This will be tied into the "unemployed" and future lost employment statistics...the "safety factor" is moot and we all know that to be true!

As for the "tamper resistant" model described by the two Congressmen...BS...it is easy for the base unit (driver manager/dispatcher) to "adjust" a drivers reported hours in all systems right now...

The "paper saving cost"? what about the cost to purchase, install, repair, "tweak", and maintain the system? Just a couple of "connected" Senators possibly getting/begging for election "financial help"!

During election time, it is always good politics to attack truckers.

    Unfortunately.

Too bad about the riff raff among us making us all look bad.

What can I say guys. Ive been one of the main ones saying it would never happen. The powers to be are saying otherwise. Time to start looking for another career. Well the moment this passes anyway. Just remember Harry Reids wife was hit by a truck back in October I believe, so there is one vote for sure.

if they actually get this to go thru, shipping prices will skyrocket. If it takes me twice as long to do my job, you can bet im gonna charge twice as much.

You're wrong. Been on elogs all summer - I have plenty of hours, if not more than when I was on paper logs because of the lack of having to round to the nearest 15-minutes.

The only real differences are having to be right the first time (no pages to rip out of the logbook) and needing to be very aware of how much time is available to drive.

if my 18 hour day gets cut to 14, its gonna take a lot longer to get my job done. the difference between your job and mine is the pay, i would bet any amount of money on that. i know what a driver running legal can make. i'm not leaving my family for a week at a time for that kinda money.
