I just had a Bridgestone R283A steer replaced and the tire shop said I had 'run flat' damage on the old tire.
I check my tires on a regular basis and I know that it's never been below about 105. I run 110 in my steers.
He said that even 5 psi makes a huge difference and that it still causes this damage.
I've been driving almost 28 years now and I've never heard of that.
Thoughts?

Sounds like he is trying to make a sale.

Typically a run flat that’s aired back up will split in the sidewall somewhere, almost like it’s been stabbed with a knife. 5 psi does not make that much of a difference, not enough to show casing damage. If that were the case, steer tires would be constantly blowing out due to the neglect they receive by most company drivers, especially with 50k mile service intervals.
There are mixed reviews on the R283 ecopia, especially with river wear which ours tend to get. They last us about 110-120k.Grubby, Dave_in_AZ, Edjahman and 2 others Thank this. -
If you were down to say 80 psi and running heavy then you would see some damage after maybe 15k but not at 105 or 100.

Tires are rated for alot lower air pressure than whats stamped on the sidewall, the sidewall stamp is for MAX pressure. It varies depending on the weight being carried. I ran super singles at 65psi ( instead of 110) in the winter because that's all I needed for a legal load, as per tire manufacturer, and it gave them a larger footprint for the much needed traction. At a cost to fuel milage... got 300k out of them in the end.
5psi under causing damage sounds like garbage to me. There is probably a pressure chart for the weight being carried online somewhere for the tire manufacturer.

Grubby, KB3MMX and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
He was also saying that Bridgestone tires have softer sidewalls, hence the damage.
Like I said, I've never heard of 5-10 psi lower then what the sidewall says causing 'run flat damage'. Oh well.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Tire shop bs. Just nod and say ya ya. Then make a note not to believe or recommended that shop to anyone else.
Edjahman Thanks this. -
Thanks, everyone!
