My house, what a place. 68 degrees, no wind, approximately 25' to the refrigerator and cabinets that hold the snacks and drinks.

Oh yeah, forgot this...2 moose on the side of I80. Good eating standing right there, just no rifle, permit or legal hunting season...how do they know?

Couldn't get outside quick enough to get a pick of the whole trailer, but this idiot has seven of these coils strapped suicide without a chain in sight. WYDoT is going to have a field day with him. 20170326_165058.jpg

I've hauled those very types of coils. They weigh roughly 7000 pounds each. My straps are weighted at 5400 pounds. Are their straps I'm not aware of weighted higher?

Well technically if they weigh 7000 and his straps are rated for 5400 he alright wll wise as long as he has two on the front. I would want more.

Aslong as the front and rear ones are secured to keep from rolling forward or rearward it is perfectly legal to only have 1 strap through the middle on the ones between front and rear. Did the driver have coil racks and wood under front and rear or someway to block front and rear? He used edge protection so that's not a issue.

As for wll on the straps, they are 5400, if each one of those in middle only weigh 7,000 each then only has to meet 3500lbs wll per coil and by the picture has more than covered the wll for the ones in middle.

He had no coil racks or any wood blocking in place. However, it is possible that he had doubled his front and rear, I was not in a good position to tell that.

When I hauled them I chained the Blue Hell out of the front and rear and used wood blocking as well. The middle was chained through center. Maybe I got carried away being new and all but suicide coils make me nervous. Not sure why it's even legal.

    Airborne Thanks this.

Ok, looked at the photo and what is visible looks OK.

While I may not agree with using straps on coils in this manor, there is nothing wrong with the use of them.
The regulations do not state that it must be chain, only that a tie down is used.
