Deer Lodge has turned the old territorial prison into a museum. Don't know if it is still there but there used to be a classic car m6seum there too.

Brings back memories of picking wild huckleberries as a kid. They ripen about the same time as the first run of salmon. Salmon with huckleberry sauce...Mmmm.....

    Out in Three Forks, MT.
Wheat Montana has a deli and bakery store.

Sandwiches are good, a tad pricey, but made with fresh baked bread to order.

Get a loaf for the road.

I used to carry my clubs with me. But since tearing out my shoulder golfing just isn't worth the two weeks of pain that follows.

Somehow Oregon knew. I don't know how, but it knew. Most of the day was beautiful and sunny, but late in the afternoon the clouds moved in and the rain came and the temperature began to drop. Around 0300 I woke to the unmistakable sound of sleet hitting the roof of my truck. Knew I had to go up about 1500 feet on my way out and sure enough, right at the 4000 foot mark I started to see snow...just a dusting at first but by the time I topped out there was around 6 inches of snow, it was 22 degrees and the ODOT was spreading that useless slop on the road. Got really slick for about 20 miles or so, especially coming down. By the time I got to Bend, however, the snow was gone, the sun was out and despite a strong NW wind, it was well into the 40s. Man that state has some schizophrenic weather. I'm up at the Washington line now having a bite to eat and deciding if I want to go any further today. Maybe I will, maybe I won't...got 4 days to do 2 days worth of driving so it's a fair bet I'm just going to wrap it up for the day and have another piece of pie.

Hope y'all are having a great day.

Apple. Warm Dutch Apple to be precise. And of course there was ice cream, what kind of heathen do you take me for.

Tomorrow I go in search of huckleberries...
