Side note on my new cb. I hooked up on the phone with one of our drivers on the way in to range check my transmit. He heard me clearly at 11.5 miles true distance but I couldn't get him until 4.75 true. That was with the squelch opened all the way up. He's running a barefoot General Lee pushing about 100 watts. Think I'm going to need the receive aligned on my 655 and put some more work into the antenna. I took a recommendation and bought a 6ft skipshooter and had it tuned and it seemed to jump my transmit a couple miles or so but didn't do much of anything for the receive...maybe a half mile or so. @CW Spook if you'd like to weigh in here I'd be all ears. You seem to really know your stuff and I just can't deal with all the sniping in the CB subforum.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Broke Down, but I'm not much of a tech, just an old time ham op. I haven't been inside a CB since back in the late 60s. When I bought my Stryker from Walcott, I did have them do the tune-up, but told them I wanted it peaked for best signal-to-noise on receive and wasn't really concerned with maximum output. I haven't had a chance to do any verified range checks, but I know I'm hearing guys out at least 10-15 miles with nothing but a Lil' Wil on top of the wife's Cherokee, with a 1.2 SWR. The 447 swings close to 80 watts, so I'm not concerned much with the transmit side. What you're seeing isn't necessarily unusual. A 100w radio can be heard a lot further than it can hear unless you've got a noise-free installation and a peaked receiver. If I'm in a noisy environment with an S7 background noise level, I wouldn't expect to be able to hear more then 5 miles either. Longer range ground-wave comms need near perfect conditions. I have a kilobuck ham rig in my own Jeep that's been modded so it will also work on CB, and my usual noise level there, using an antenna that does dual-duty, is much higher than in the wife's car that we use for long trips. That's the reason I went with a dedicated radio in her rig. When the WX gets #####, I want to hear about it from you guys as far away as possible.

Well, as I said, I'm not the tech some of the guys on the other forum claim to be, and I don't have any experience with other shops. Some of what I read on the other forum seems to have some basis in fact, and some stuff sounds like the junk mail I get for miracle pills. I took a chance on Walcott because they are fairly close to me, and I'm more than pleased with the results I got. It would be easy for a hack artist to do more harm than good. Maybe I was just lucky, maybe they actually listened to me and understood what I wanted, I don't know, but I don't believe there is only one tech out there with a big letter "S" on his chest,

We need to come up with a name for her. Really Hooters girl or some form of that is, well just not the at the level of class we need here.
Only knowing she works for the famous chain, I am not sure where to start. Any suggestions?
And of course it would only be proper to have Broke Down approve it.Airborne, Oxbow, Shock Therapy and 3 others Thank this. -
