Bd. You should consider going home and staying home. From the sound of things its a very real possibility that she isn't going to get better. Spend some time with her while you can.

I couldn't live with mine. After numerous trips to ER, failed attempts with drugs to get back on normal rhythm, and then numerous electrocardioversions which DID work for a while, and then the final one where it just wouldn't reset, I started with the ablations. Had two of them. Useless. Pacemaker put in. Works like a charm. Even though I will eventually die of heart failure, (if something else doesn't get me first...) I know one thing without a doubt, I will NEVER let them cut me again. Ever. -
BD, sounds like some rough stuff going on. I do hope every one gets on a path to better health soon.
Has to be rough on you too. Been in that place, gets hard some days. keep a perspective.Airborne, Crusader66, Broke Down 69 and 2 others Thank this. -

My 45-yr old son had afib. They tried the chemical route which didn't work, so he had an ablation which fixed the problem, but in doing so they discoverd he suffers from hypercardiomyopathy, the condition that make young atheletes drop dead. It's usuallly genetic, but after tests, both my teenage grandsons came up clean, for which we're thankful. BD, we'll keep your mom in our prayers...hope they can find a treatment that works.

Well, it's not quite Lazarus rising from the dead, but it doesn't miss by much. Sometime during the night the doctors found a ####tail of cardiac meds that pretty well straightened my mom's heart rate. This afternoon they transitioned to oral meds and everything stayed in sync. I talked to her earlier today and while she is a long way from her usual self, she sounded remarkably better and was able to carry on a coversation that wasnt rambling and disjointed. All this is great news but my optimism is guarded at best. There is still a long, hard road yet to travel.
I'm in Southern Wisconsin with a load bound for Chatham, Virginia. Won't have to babysit this load so I'm going to do what I do...run hard and get it off so I can hopefully do it again.
More later...passingthru69, Lepton1, Vic Firth and 12 others Thank this. -
Good to hear things are making a positive turn.
True, its not over yet, still plenty of bumpy road ahead.
You need to have a good chat with mom about the future.
My guess is the medications are going to be for the rest of her life.Airborne and Broke Down 69 Thank this. -
