Guys, I really appreciate the support and solid advice. I plan to.follow instructions to the letter, hoping to recover as quickly as possible. Work has been very supportive. Owner put one of the office girls in charge of all the paperwork, all i have to do with it is read and sign, so at least I don't have to deal with that. Talked with them about maybe moving inside and driving a desk for a little while as I heal up and if they can get that by Workmans Comp I'll likely move in and work on load scheduling or brokering for a while. It would be great experience for a guy who wants to run his own operation one day.
So here I set, bored and frustrated, pondering the irony of my screen name, hoping that I'll be able to dodge a surgery that'll really set me for a good long time.

Yep, that one year plus I spent in the office was invaluable experience for me as an owner operator.
The transition from company driver to office management to owner operator really made it so much easier for me.
Seeing things from the inside out is a real eye opener. -

Well, starting Monday I'm going to take over as DM for 6 trucks dedicated to brokered loads. I've already got access to the loadboards we use, plus a couple others that I've been watching for several months learning what freight moves from where and what it pays. I certainly don't see myself doing this for any longer than it takes for me to heal up but it'll give me something to do while I do.
So now my journey to the Dark Side begins.
