Well, originally, I'm from South Carolina. Harder accent than those from NC...and I agree with you on Kentucky, that one's a tough one for me as well.

    The Way I Talk

It's got a touch of the town where I grew up
Something in it them California girls love
Some people like to make a little fun of
    The way I talk
It gets slower after three or four cold beers
And gets louder when I'm cheerin' on the Volunteers
Folks know I'm country, when they hear
    The way I talk

I sounds a little bit like my daddy
I don't cuss around my mama
Got some words you've never heard
'Less you come from down yonder
    The man upstairs gets it
So I ain't tryna fix it
    No I can't hide it
I don't fight it, I just roll with it
Oh, kinda slow like the Mississippi rolls
It's the only way I know
    Man it ain't my fault
I just live the way I talk

Yeah it's, "Yessir, no ma'am, y'all come back, now"
Fighting words if you run my last name down
    I ain't ashamed, matter of fact I'm #### proud
Of the way I talk, y'all

I sounds a little bit like my daddy
I don't cuss around my mama
Got some words you've never heard
'Less you come from down yonder
    The man upstairs gets it
So I ain't tryna fix it
    No I can't hide it
I don't fight it, I just roll with it
Oh, kinda slow like the Mississippi rolls
It's the only way I know
    Man it ain't my fault
I just live the way I talk

Slow, like a Sunday morning service back home
And kinda sweet when I got a girl to love on
If you know me, you know

I sounds a little bit like my daddy
I don't cuss around my mama
Got some words you've never heard
'Less you come from down yonder
    The man upstairs gets it
So I ain't tryna fix it
    No I can't hide it
I don't fight it, I just roll with it
Oh, kinda slow like the Mississippi rolls
It's the only way I know
    Man it ain't my fault
I just live the way I talk
    The way I talk

Years ago, the wife worked at a company that had global operations. Several located in asia, most of the people had little or no problem with her slight accent. When it was time to talk with others from places like Tennesee, Georgia, and even Texas, they would call the wife to have her translate. Seems that people who have an asian language as first or primary, have a real problem with "southern" dialects.

Yes they do. I ran into that in my Navy years. Had to have a buddy from Chicago make the deal with mama-san for my bar girl(s) everytime i was in Olongapo.

Not sure, but I may be older than both yall.
    not by much, but enough.
Down Subic way, when the big boats are in, the rates changed.
Angeles city, nothing much ever changed.

Oh yeah, when the fleet was in prices went up but it was still cheap. Ah the memories of a wildly misspent youth. Glad my two sons have never asked, "Dad, what did you do in the Navy"?
"Well boys, i whored and drank on five continents...tried like hell to get to Antarctica to make it clean sweep, but i couldn't make that happen. I am a Blue Nose, though."
