Well, I have some understanding of IFTA and how it works, but stopping twice, in the same county, for fuel seems a bit odd. I figure if nothing else, I may learn something new. I just want to do some miles, got to stack some coin for Christmas and a new truck.

Will take a bit of time to learn the IFTA game.
Alot will depend of how you setup lanes.
Once the basics are in place the rest is easy.

Who will file? you or the company? And how is the miles tracked?

    Shock Therapy Thanks this.

Does the first stop have you picking up a very small amount of fuel? If so then its very likely their fueling program thinks you won't be able to get to the 2nd, preferred location, without adding a little bit. Whatever it is, it has nothing to do with ifta since both fuel stops are in California.

Ifta is really simple. Most guys make it way more complicated than it actually is.

Every state has a different state fuel tax, you must pay the tax for fuel burnt in that state which is figured by your miles ran in each state and tote average mpg for the quarter. You file quarterly, total miles. Total fuel purchased. Miles in each jurisdiction. Gallons purchased in each jurisdiction.

Any credits due from buying more fuel in a state than you burnt will be applied to the tax owed in states you didn't buy enough fuel in(or any at all).

The goal is to get fuel for the cheapest amount. In order to figure out what the true cost of the fuel is, you deduct the states fuel tax from the price you pay for fuel. I suggest you make a cheat sheet with the fuel tax of each state on it so you can quickly figure out the best place to be buying fuel when you do your trip planing.

Not kidding, I am at shipper in Fontana. Talking to this very nice Mexican-American lady who teams with her husband. She said to me, " I not gonna lie, I drive illegally, I don't even have a cdl." LOL

Boy has this been of of those runs. Started off with my trailer parked down and no yard dog available until the next morning. Lost 6 hours or so of drive time there. Then got to Wilmington, CA to unload and it was a total cluster...lost about 3 hours there. Headed for my first pick and they took 3 hours after my appointment time to even start...ran my clock out there. Bounced over for my second pick this morning and they GROSSLY overloaded me and i had to go looking for a CAT scale in the .middle of nowhere...more hours gone and now I'm back, having them take off what I told them not to load in the first place...what a freaking week. Got a load in Chicago going to NC and a Christmas break and boy do I need it.

    More later...

Exactly. Cheapest price at the pump is not necessarily the cheapest fuel. I believe you can print it off of your home state's IFTA website. If anybody needs a copy, just holler.
