Okay...two weeks ago the power divider exploded in Warsaw In....installed a used one at a local shop.

Tonite...same deal...broke something and it went thru the housing...some gears are broken as I can feel them slip.

Now....does anyone know if I could deflate and plug my front axle airbags Jack up and chain up the axle remove the tires engage the power divider and be able to bobtail... I'd like to take it back to the shop that did the last repair...150 miles.

    Call a tow truck.

Better yet have the guy who last fixed it send a tow truck....

    And tow it rear up.

Even if you chain up the front axle the gearset will still spin.

If there are loose parts floating around it will tear up more/worse.

I'm looking at a grand tow bill.......it certainly can't break much worse...if it did at least I'd be closer to the shop that did the work.

I've limped home before with an axle chained up but never for this kind of failure.

why couldnt you take the axles out, cut some cardboard to keep the oil in and lock the p/d in and limp it, with the axles out the ring/pinion wont turn much

If you installed a used diff, did they include any kind of warranty with it? Usually if you install a used component it is considered "as-is" and "buyer beware". I would certainly call the other shop and see if they are going to do anything for you. You might be just wasting your time and risking damaging more by trying to get it back there if they aren't going to warranty anything.

The used different was as-is... I think at somepoint it was abused...but it passed a visual inspection.

I made it 75 miles last nite then one of the helical spur gears broke....probably from debris.... so I called for a tow.

I decided to rebuild the power divider with all new parts. I use it when I do field harvest work and don't want to risk just dropping in another used pumpkin. In eight weeks I'll be back in the fields so I need it to be reliable.

Have you priced a new one, if it's eaton you might be surprised. 404's are as cheap as rebuilt. Not sure about 402

Never came up in a conversation... I'll be back up and running by noon Thursday so what's done is done I guess.
