Hey, All. Have an incident where the broker never discussed the value of the cargo. Our cargo ins is $100k the value was over $500k. Long story short, the broker instructed we remove the plastic film from the machinery and tarp it. It ended up getting damaged and now they're trying to claim us for the damages. Naturally, the ins is only covering a portion and we're being asked to pay the rest. How should I navigate this?

How many threads are you going to post about this?
It sounds like you did not do your job very well. Your 'long story short' seems like you do not think things out for yourself, and got burned. -

Yet another fabulous broker who did their job.

Are shippers usually open with the value of the load?
I used to load flatbeds and had maybe 2 or 3 drivers out of the hundreds ask about the value before they got loaded. I didnt know exactly, but it was precast concrete, told them i didnt know exactly but it was probably something like $50k. That seamed to satisfy them, i guess they were checking that it wasnt oddly expensive for insurance coverage? -
Seek counsel from a lawyer that has experience in property damage law vs. this site.
