truck load is truck load, for the very little bit of it I do my rates don’t change he because I’m predicting I’ll use less fuel on a certain run. If it was that bad fill the truck tanks and get rolling empty
now if I got there and there was 20 pallets of ice cream sitting in a parking lot yes I would absolutely tell them to get ####ed,
I ran 0 all last week and used about 30 gallons of fuel
Broker lied about the reefer temperature

He mentioned that in 90°F he won’t do frozen tells me that his unit is older and won’t hold the temps.
The wear and tear and fuel costs aside.77fib77 Thanks this. -
I know all about reefers, hauling ice cream loads in the summer etc etc.
OP didn’t want to risk putting-10 product in his warm trailer that was being rushed to load.
No real difference in me saying I’m not taking a load because the load was supposed to be 5k lbs and it turns out to be 45k. Does it mean my truck can’t pull it?
OP saw a risk that he wasn’t able take on a cheap load..Good for him, common sense prevails.Midwest Trucker, hope not dumb twucker and Iamoverit Thank this. -
rollin coal and wichris Thank this.

Broker doesn't always get it right. It's nothing to ditch a load over. I mean OP was about to get loaded up ASAP which is always a good thing with a reefer. So set the temp on -10 and get to making money. Or give the load back, burn a bridge with a broker/customer and fuss about something silly all while costing yourself money. I always thought guys who wouldn't haul 45k loads were silly too. The fuel mileage difference is not even noticeable in the big picture. Same with the fuel burned on frozen versus fresh, negligible not even a consideration, unless the unit is past it's useful life.Last edited: Jul 17, 2025 at 3:18 PM

“OP has junk equipment”
Glad to see that you were finally able to spit it out..now go put the tape measure back in your toolbox -
What kind of reefers can't pull -10 on a normal summer day? Hmmmmm..wichris Thanks this. -
To me it sort of sounds like someone was trying to pull a fast one. Changing temps is one thing, being in a big hurry to get the product loaded would make me a little cautious. Like they had warm product and wanted to hang it on the driver.
hope not dumb twucker, Midwest Trucker, MACK E-6 and 1 other person Thank this. -
even my 15 year old utility with the tiny sb200 on it can pull -10 when it’s 90 out, it’s not happy about it, but it does it
there’s just not enough info to just straight up say “im not doing it”, those are words that should never come out of your mouth as a business owner, put a high price on it and let them say noRuthless, wichris, hope not dumb twucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
