Lot's of takes here. I am not a reefer guy and have no experience in it. My first thought was the driver did the right thing and the broker or company was trying to get over on them with a bad load. Unless they have worked together on a lot of loads I would had done the same thing. I do not care to put myself at risk for a few bucks on a load. Even if it was a good paying load I would back out of it. If it was a broker I work with normally I would Document it all and have a new Rate Con sent to me and do the load.

Good thing about doing Dry van is I can see if it has some kind of problems pretty easy. I also used to load trucks with high end product and understand how the shipping side works. So they cannot get over on me with that BS stunts some try and pull.

Being a Walmart driver is much better than 99%+ of the so called business owners.

Just wondering what sort of skin in the game he's ever had if any? He's on the same easy street as me driving a company truck but taking jabs at my failed business.

Of course, the op was right to refuse to load. A reefer is not a freezer. It is supposed to mantain the temperature. The initial product temperature is critical and often times that's what you sign for on the BOL.

Especially, with produce, you had better check the pulp before they load every time and note it on the BOL if it is too off. That's why they shippers go so often mad when you do it if the temp is off.

Even the newest units may have problems in 90+ temperatures.
Between a junk and new there's a vast array possibilities too. Not everyone has to have a new unit, especially those on the spot market.
