Yesterday, I had been trying to book a load for Friday.
At 11:00 am I agreed with a new broker for a load and a price.
At 11:30 he sent the carrier package (17 pages and a lot of details to give, verify, etc.).
At 12:45, I was done with everything and I called him to let him know that I have faxed and e-mailed all he needed. He said that it would take a while but he would send the rate.
At 3:00 pm he sent an e-mail saying: "you'll have the rate in few minutes".
At 5:30 pm I called him and he said "my manager needs to verify your company before we can finish the set-up wit you. We have had a very hectic day today, I am sorry. We will e-mail the rate later tonight or early this morning."
At 9:30 am this morning I had no rate, no phone call from him.
At 9:39 am I've got an e-mail from one of the brokers that we have been working with for years offering me a similar load to the initial one (miles, money, etc.). In 3 minutes I had the rate.
9:45 am the first broker calls and tells me that he finally had the rate and was able to send it over. 23 hours after we've agreed on the rate. 21 hours after I've sent over everything he needed from us.
He got mad and started screaming that this is not a way to start a business relationship and that I should've at least call him because he assured me that the load has been ours (should I mention that earlier yesterday TQL had cancelled a load when we were half way to the pick-up... Yes, I know, it is TQL but... still.). I was about to call him when he called me, but he did it first and I explained the situation. He hung up saying that he would add us to their company's "no load list".
Now... I understand his frustration. He has to pay more for the load if he is booking it today or tomorrow. But... how much is a decent time to wait?? We want to go on a vacation on Monday. I couldn't have risked not having a load tomorrow to bring my husband home plus, I wondered how much would they need to process a payment if sending the rate took 22 hours??!!

maybe in the future, give them a deadline to get back to you, or you're going to accept a load from someone else.
give'em say about 2 hours. as it looks like you did all your stuff in 1.75 hours.
if they cannot get back to you in under 2 hours, then yes, how long will it take to pay you?KB3MMX, tscottme, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I think you were patient enough! Hang in there...Dave_in_AZ, Grubby and Ruthless Thank this.

I read it here by many very experienced o/o that give them ten minutes to send a rate.
Grubby, justatrucker, mp4694330 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Hi, You went over and above. You have more patience then i do.That broker showed you no respect.Put him on YOUR no call list.
He left you hanging-you lucked out getting another load.Good for you.23 hours later + 90 days for a check/or possibly no check. What a jerk.
Glad your husbands coming home n enjoy your vacation.Mattflat362, KB3MMX, Dave_in_AZ and 2 others Thank this. -
Sounds like you're better off not doing business with them. Some brokers really need to come down off their high horse.....
passingthru69, Dave_in_AZ, bzinger and 2 others Thank this. -
Some of these brokers are first class jerks, especially the young punks who are really aggressive with no real life experience. I would of told him to stick it where the sun don't shine.

I agree with the above poster who said when you contact a broker for a load; be professional , but include in the talking that you need a rate within a certain time frame...

tell him perhaps his manager needs to "verify" carriers a lil sooner than 23 hrs and move on.
