Hi Guys,
My partner and I are working on creating a brokerage company that is streamlined with home-grown software to eliminate a lot of the time spent filling out paperwork/placing phone calls. By eliminating a lot of the time spent doing these things we feel we can offer loads for a much lower price and make up for it in higher volumes of loads brokered.
We specialize in the software design/development but are looking for an experienced broker (preferably in the Madison, WI area as we're located here, but we're open to anyone) to partner with who:
1. Has existing relationships with shipping companies/truckers
2. Is looking to be a part of a disruptive start-up/on the innovative edge of the trucking industry
3. Isn't quite satisfied with their current revenues and is interested in making potentially much more than they are currently
Feel free to respond to me via email - thomas.hammond89@gmail.com
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Tom

I hate to burst your bubble, but it's call a Transportation Management System (TMS). There are many out there, but many have the ability to do just exactly what you're talking about. Don't reinvent the wheel. Make a rocket car and go a step above what's on the market today.dannythetrucker Thanks this.

Just be sure you don't make the software too good. If you make it easy enough a trucker can do it you'll put yourself out of a job.

Interesting thoughts. You are correct that it would use some functionality that already exists out there in transportation management systems, but it would also combine a lot of the existing loadboard functionality as well.
The idea is that a trucker can seamlessly find a load and accept it in seconds, "filling out" all of the paperwork with an electronic signature.
Where I think the real power is, is the "Plan My Week" and "Plan My Month" functionality I want to add after we have enough loads being posted daily to do so - basically it would allow a trucker to map out where he is going to end up with each load and then find other loads to get him back home. Also estimations of the total profits you'd make based on current gas prices. Finally there'd be a "Make Me Money" button which would look for the most lucrative loads matching your equipment and destination city and display those.
The idea is that it would be really easy - but I want to make it so that truckers depend upon the service so much that it would be far more work for them to not use our service
. Everytime they accept a load, they'll only pay the flat fee of $20-25 which really isn't much considering how easy it would be for them. However for us, if we move 140,000 loads/day+ like you see on Getloaded/DAT/Internet Truckstop, at 20-25 bucks per load we'd be looking at gross revenues $1B+.

If only it were so easy as clicking a button that said "make me money". Technology is great and all but I'm sorry you just cannot cut human interaction out of the picture like that. Honestly I fail to see how such software would benefit any independent trucker who is serious about their craft. Let a computer program plan a week or month of loads to get me home? The idea is so out there... ...knowing what I know about drivers who "need this load" or "need that one"... ...and how the market hammers them. You work home for a rate, learn how to. You don't give that control away. Sorry if you take this wrong. Call it like I see it. There are no shortcuts to playing a market and making money. What you are proposing really is what guys who have figured out how, actually do every day second nature.....basically you propose a loadboard that takes human interaction out and is just point click.. good luck with that. Negotiation is an art.. ..sounds like something that might rope in gullible hopefuls and newbs.

There is no substitute for human intelligence, communication, and the art of the deal....negotiation.
But there's always someone trying to reinvent the wheel.... -
LOL!!! Spent a lot of time booking freight, have you?
LOL!!! Seriously, you need to get a carrier authority and spend some time on a load board.....
Might as well work on a way to change lead into gold while you're at it.... -
Yes sir, I think the guy understands technology but has no experience working within a free market system that is fluid, dynamic, and constantly changing.... He has zero understanding of the nature of rate negotiations and how rates are determined.....
I hope he doesn't think I'm being mean, I'm just trying to bring him back to earth......rollin coal Thanks this. -

I think many things can and will change based on the actual trucking business. Using agile development it's not hard to accommodate that. In fact, working in a fluid, dynamic and constantly changing industry is where agile development excels.
Simply put, I think we can create something that will generate value, but we need someone with the necessary experience to help us build that useful product.
