I'm currently setup with the Shipper (Wolverine Mats/Atwood Forest Products) so I get their load lists AND the Shipper posted this one on ITS themselves and immediately afterwards two brokers (Modern Transportation and Ignition Logistics) posted the load as well.

They both took a very large bite from the rate (which was already too low to begin with). The Shipper posted it for 2200 and both the brokers posted it for 1350 each. How's that for a profit margin?! 39 percent or 850 dollars! I called them both to see if it was a mistake or a typo and both told me, "that's all I have in it" of course.

I'm not hating but don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining. Just be honest say it's a non-negotiable rate. No need for the lies and deceit. The Shipper has already been cheap so nothing has changed except the extra large bite these brokers took from an already too low rate.

It infuriates me that when I bid on a load I almost always get "Your bid is too high, try bidding a little lower to retain this load"...but when these brokers post a load I bet it doesn't say to them "Your rate is too low, try posting a better rate that someone can actually make some money on"

That load board has the lowest average rates listed of any load board I frequent. So, I got rid of it...

Also, did you know that you can help drive the "average" rate up by offering high rates just so they will be rejected? The software systems that these 3pls, shippers, carriers, etc... use are all tied together so DAT, ITS, and other TMSs, can see the data.

For example, if the data starts showing that rates are being rejected for being too high in the bidding, it will move the average rate up. That's how brokers get it to stay down so low all the time, they constantly put in trash rates that screw with the algorithm...whether they know they're doing it or not.

My point being that you cannot trust any rates you see...they are ALL negotiable...that's the point of the spot market. Rates are just now starting to trend back up on the boards. I would suggest that anyone with access to multiple companies load boards start offering high rates for lanes you run so they'll be rejected and the average will start moving up.

Can't say I am surprised, sad part is someone will haul it for $1350. I think the first thing brokers learn is "That's all I have in it"

If anyone hauls this particular load for 1350 they're beyond stupid because as previously mentioned the Shipper themselves have also posted it for a solid 850 dollars more.

I couldn't agree more! And $2200 is low for New England as well.

I knew a guy once upon a time (friend of a friend) who made obscene amounts of money as a broker (I THINK independent, but I didn't know him that well).

I talked about him on here, and all the brokers on here told me to get him on here (probably so they could tell him to stop telling the truth), and when I asked my friend about him, he said he'd died of a cocaine-related heart attack.

Because I guess what else would you do with all that money.
