I've done a few TQL loads recently. They're definitely not my 'go to', but if I'm just browsing around and nothing is looking good, I'll give them a call later in the day when their load is still getting refreshed on the board and there's no bites. Got $5/mi out of them on the last load. And that was a reefer load, 35k frozen. Desperate, afternoon, July 3rd. Had to be picked up, and they kept raising their offer until they got me what I wanted.

that seems to be the formula. Kind of ironic, in an industry based on timeliness and efficiency, the only way to make money is to wait all day until someone cracks and offers a profitable rate, then fill out contracts, ratesheets, get insurance certs sent in a mad rush while getting to the shipper right before they close and likely driving all night to get it there. fun times.

Hmmmm.... maybe the eobr's may end up helping to get good rates.....

How cool would it be to be the only truck around with a fresh 14hr clock when the load has to pick up today and be there at 0700 tomorrow??

    And it's 1545 and counting....

If I have space, & it intrests me$ I entertain a ltl. I make sure My truck pays before I even leave. I get pocket change sometimes. I hauled 4 Puppys in a cage from Vermont to Texas on the understanding I keep one. She is sleeping beside me right now. She has seen things most people never will. She has her own coffee cup. She is 9 years old. It's her truck, she let's me drive it.

Many times, the broker doesnt have all of the information about the load when they post. It is a competetive business. When a cust. called and offers them a load, they simply give the cities, states, and equipment requirements. Also, they are giving this limited info to more than one broker. It's just the nature of the business. People can complain about brokers all day, but they keep you rolling.

And that can be part of the problem. I hate negotiating with someone to be told the 'load's been covered'. So, it never really was their load. And even if we did agree to a price, they may still be undercut by someone else negotiating a price.

I know man. It does work both ways though. Truckers get better runs and fall out on loads all of the time. Just like any other industry.... there are people who do good business, and there those who do shady business on both ends. It is funny how brokers attack truckers, and truckers attack brokers, and not many people focus on how the customers pit the two against each other. Think about it.... it is usually careless customers who cause misinformation, detentions, and other problems that hurt the relationship between brokers and truckers.... but since the customer is always right.... brokers and drivers turn on each other. All three are a necessary evil to the other two.

Most people thank you for that.Drive , what happens in your cab with closed curtains is your business. It should stay between you and the Bee with an itch ... on and your dog.

Seriously , I was also given a puppy by the factory manager of a trailer manufacturer when I let him fix a huge mistake he made on a quote to adapt 3 trailers I bought.
    So I guess it really was a $ 10 000 puppy.

From my perspective, that is your job to get the info from the shipper before posting. When I deal with shippers directly, I get the information. What exactly am I paying you for again ? know the load or don't post it, do your job.

This is an interesting point. Because i have read that when a broker asks a carrier for a price and it is below what they want to pay and they still try to get it down a bit, they are bloodsuckers, and evil. but when a carier tries to get more money, it is just good business sense. I am sensing a double standard. Not saying i wouldnt do the same thing, just noticed the hypocricy in it.
