Hello to all and hope all is well. Why are brokers dropping their rates to less than a dollar per mile and especially doing these times. This is just awful as these drivers are risking their lives to keep freight moving.

Because there are too many "life riskers" on the road right now. Way more than available loads

Brokers are dropping their rates because the supply of trucks is greater than the demand. In 2018 when the demand was greater than the capacity, rates were 3 to 4 times higher than they are today, and some carriers thought it would stay that way forever, and based their earnings and growth on those numbers.

Freight markets are cyclical and they never remain high or low, especially in the spot market. Bottom line...if you don't like the rate, don't move the freight.

Find lanes that are more profitable and negotiate accordingly.
This is business in a free enterprise market, and in this business no one cares if you can't make it.

Nothing stays good or bad forever my friend. Freight lanes and commodity makes all the difference in the world when you're trying to make some money

simple supply/demand. If there are no a lot of loads to take, then their are more drivers jockeying to get them. Thus the broker has an item in demand for the driver. Not the other way around. That means he can sell it to them cheaper to make more profit. Economics 101
