Orientation is laid back... You have to watch the Smith System videos just like every other orientation. I guess it depends on how many people are in your orientation class as to how long each section takes, but it is well organized. They will give a demonstration of E-logs and give you the option of getting them installed. If you don't want them and can handle paper logs you are free to use paper. If you have constant errors on paper then you will have to go to E-logs. They also have unlimited coffee to aid in the staying awake part.

Unlike some orientations I have attended, safety isn't a "problem". They simply go over what is expected of you and answer any questions you may have. The shop will go over your truck and perform a DOT inspection. Any issues need to be addressed before you can sign your lease. There is a local shop that gives a discount to orientation attendees. I found everyone to be professional and they will answer every question you have, which leads back to my point about the size of your orientation class. The more people asking questions and needing clarification, the longer it will take. There were only 3 people in my class so it went smoothly.

The full schedule for orientation is on Oakley's website so you know what to expect day to day. Make sure you bring any and all paperwork related to any medications you are taking so as to ease the process. Ms Wendy in permits is great at taking care of any issues you have with truck lease paperwork and related items. If you are having any problems getting needed paperwork she will get it taken care of...

What they don't tell you is you're at the mercy of your dispatcher. He pays you, NOT Oakley. Best one there is Micah O . He runs the Vac Tanks. Honest, fair, high integrity. Can't say enough good things about this young man. The Hopper Bottoms are a different story. Bryan, Russell, and their supervisor Scott. They think you are lying about everything, and challenge you. For example, if you need a washout they will ask for pictures to prove it. Why do they do this you ask?? Bryan ask me once "What right do you have spending my money"? You see, Bryan has leased the trailers from Oakley and Oakley gets their money regardless of what happens. Brian pays for trailer breakdowns, maintenance, washouts. He pays you, and what's left he keeps. Just remember, every dollar he don't pay you goes in his pocket.
Another thing is text msgs. They prefer to text. They text you while you're driving and expect you to respond. It;s second nature to text over there. Happy Trails.

I agree it all depends on your dispatcher. Mine prefers phone calls but most prefer to text. My understanding is Mr Benny owns the trailers and the dispatchers rent them. Their yearly profit/ loss is their basis for pay.

I haven't been at Oakley for long but I'm happy so far.
