I was offered a whopping 350.00 today to pull 50K from Winchester, VA to Pittsburgh, PA. Really? I said (pretending to be interested). How many loads do you have I ask. Oh, we have several left. Why do you think that is I asked. Do you want the load she replied. Ummm? only if I can pay BSNF to haul it because clearly they need to make money more than I do. Click..hahaha I love brokers:biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:

No you just get sick of hearing we've got more than that in it when they're really making a killing off us.

If you don't ask, you'll never get it.

You may have been the only one in a hundred calls they made that even was available in the area. I've had those first cheap offers accept my bid or possibly call back later. Once in a while they do it fast enough that I haven't covered the truck already.

It's funny how sometimes you feel if you don't book a load that you will be screwed.. ..and these brokers they love it when they have a trucker or carrier who feels they are in that situation. But the shoe sometimes is on the other foot and they get that way too, "we must get this one covered", "other truck fell off of it" it does happen all the time but brokers for whatever reason play the game so much better, and really that is crazy, cause they need the truck.. without the truck all they have is no money coming in...

Why so many have to make it a "Brokers vs Truckers". If you have a major issue with some brokers low balling you then call their butts out. Don`t clump all of us brokers together. I have dealt with some real horse crap carriers along the way, but I am not naïve enough to think you all run the same way. Some drivers that come on here and say brokers are snakes, scum ect ect ... just shows your ignorance.

I listen very carefully to them on the phone, and I'm looking for the "tells" that let me know their state of mind.....

Absolutely. Just booked a load for one of the guys. Initial offer was above normal for this particular brokerage house..........clue #1

I countered with a number..........he stated that was more than he could pay but didnt hang up...............clue #2

He countered halfway between my number and his original...............clue #3

I said "thanks for the offer but I wll keep looking". Met the offer and we will be loading it tomorrow at 900.

It's all a game, learning it or fighting it is your choice.

Are ya sure about that? :biggrin_2559: JK,I do know some who are excellent and I keep in touch. There are still others though who bring the reputation of snakey on everyone else. I work regularly with brokers who I really don't have to play games. In fact I had a load from one a couple of weeks ago who I had not hauled for before and never asked for a dime more than his original offer because he had it right to start with. I'm sure he was surprised about that and it's definately out of character for me. The company has regular loads back to my area so I did'nt start off being a pita. Not that asking for more is bad, just that they had it right already. The load went well with no issues and now I have a new business partner in a lane I've been trying for a while to develop.
It works both ways though and there are many that I will not even talk to and would not haul their load if they paid me double. Snakes, and I can smell'em thru the phone line. I wish.
