I had been working for a small mom n pop company, that didn't work out, and I really wanted to get with a " bigger" company, even though it would mean less pay, surely it would mean newer nicer trucks and that they also maintain them.

Looking around, I came across BTC, read their website, called and spoke with a recruiter, everything sounded great, the recruiter didn't sound like a used car salesman like most of them do.

I did an online application, and 2 weeks later I got a phone call asking me to come out for orientation. So I went, on the god forsaken greyhound.

Everything goes good, they put us up in a real nice hotel, their facilities at the Memphis yard were nice and clean. Pretty nice people.

so fast forward to the last day of orientation.. They came in, said congrats ya'll made it, etc etc. At this time, we had all been given employee ID numbers, etc. And were told to return to the hotel, while they figured up who was who's trainer etc. The only reason I had to go through all of this was because my OTR experience wasn't verifiable due to the mom n pop company I worked for.

So anyway, we go back to the hotel..come back the next day for whatever, and the man who I guess " runs" orientation, Scott Hall, came and called me into another office, " Just paper work, maybe a short hey how ya doin sit down with my trainer" I thought.. Boy was I wrong.

I get in his office, and it's just me and him..where this Scott Hall fellow begins to just talk down to me, as if I had personally insulted him.. Telling me I wasn't cut out for the business, etc. WTF? He then goes to say I did not participate in any of the load securing training they do out there..Which was a lie, I participated plenty, but like I told him, I am not new to flat bed, I grew up flat bedding with my dad who was an owner operator for a long time. Hall then goes on to incoherently ramble, and then some other little sawed off pr*ck comes in and just sits there and agrees with everything Hall has to say. Finally, Hall basically says We're sending you home.

Well, I completed orientation, and they refuse to pay me. So I called Mr. phillips, the owner of the company, and surprisingly was able to speak with him..he however was no help in the matter..which was a great disappointment, cause all I ever heard about BTC is " we're family owned, we treat folks right, bla bla" And yet mr.phillips doesn't care that they owe someone for orientation pay, wasted a week of the mans time and now saying screw you,we don't owe you anything.

Well, as I was leaving, Scott Hall came out of the office with a greyhound ticket to send me home, ( this was 8am, and the ticket he gave me didn't leave until the next day at 8am) and they kicked me out of the hotel, so I guess they wanted me to stay at the greyhound station for a little over a day.. This just sent me over the edge, and I ripped the ticket up and threw it in his face, and proceeded to let the curse words fly at this scumbag, and yes, it was in front of everyone in our " class" along with several other drivers and office employees..Normally I don't like to cause a scene, but being informed that I don't have a job and also being screwed out of orientation pay was enough for me to forget that.

Bottom line is, IF you can get past the orientation, games and mazes, they MIGHT be a good company to work for, but the fact that the owner wasn't remotely concerned that Scott Hall was sending people home AFTER completing orientation and screwing people out of orientation pay, is troubling..What if they owed you a whole pay check? What if? If they are like that over 300 dollars, personally they can't be trusted..

I only lived 3 hours from Memphis, and I'm a frequent visitor of casinos in the area ( Tunica,MS) and I had about 6 free nights at the Sam's Town Casino Hotel, so since I had already made it to Memphis on BTC's dime, I caught a taxi ride out to Tunica, and basically made a vacation out of it. Then I had one of my boys come out, we got drunk and rowdy in the casino for free lol and rode back home with him.

Oh that's been done and over with. This was early last year, but I just now joined the forum so I'm just sharing the story.

"but like I told him, I am not new to flat bed, I grew up flat bedding with my dad who was an owner operator for a long time."

I think the training was also an interview and with the statement you made, I think you sank your own ship.

Well I said that after he had already made his mind up they were screwing me over. You could just tell by his general demeanor. Very smart mouth, sarcastic, condescending, talking down to everyone. Oh well, who cares, it's in the past.

I know that you said it after. What I meant was it sounds like you already had the mindset that you did not need securement training because you were already experienced so you probably did not give it 100 percent and they may have picked up on that.

At this point it is neither here nor there.
