So I am starting with a trainer next week. I know that it'll vary from driver to driver, but I'm curious what I should be setting aside for expenses while on the road. I was thinking that around $100 a week should do it? But I really have no idea. Thanks guys

I'm thinking more like $200.00.

yeah 2 would be closer to actual. truckstop food is expensive and you probably wont be stopping for restaurants or Wally world

well with out knowing your running lanes or how you and your trainer is set up, the trainer suppse too pay everything, however thats not all true, i ended up going too new yourk city , trainer said he was broke, i asked why would take a load if your broke, he did not have a answer, but i did, he spent the night before in the game room, but i said thats his buss, so when i got there i got too pay the toll roads and bridges total bill came too under $345, but what did i know how much they cost, i never been out there in my life, but i learn quik , it was might spendy, then over the next 4 weeks i got my money back from the company, then on the way back he had the nerve too ask for food i bought with me, i said go get out those money machines in the game room at the truckstop, so i would say tops is $400, bottom is $100, depends on how long your out for, or just buy a $100 worth of food at wall-mart.most laundrys in truckstop are $1.75 for washers , to .25 cents for dryers, so get a roll of quaters too, to $6.00 for the big boy machine 14 loads at once, i used that one for my bedding, if on trainer truck he should split the shower ticket if not , most is under $2.00 while at wall-mart stock up on personal needs $50,00 or so, look up for bath soap made for hard water, becuse that what your going too be showering in,

I agree with these posters, but I have to say I hope your trainer is teaching you some money management as well, 200.00 a week for food and expenses ...WTF !!
I can see this during training, "just in case funds" ...
But do yourself a favor don't ever bring a wad of money with you on the road, use debit/check cards, way to many ##### hats out there that might see you with a wad of cash and roll you in the parking lot.....Everett Thanks this. -
I would never take cash with me. I've seen how seedy some TS's are. I just ask because I have to send most of my money home to my family obviously. My company allows fridges and has APU's so I figure I can save a lot of money by filling my fridge before trips. Buy my cigarettes at home where they're cheap.

Use cash, (no paper trail, like a debit card)

)
Food at Walmart, nice thing about a fridge, micro, etc is you don't ever have to worry about eating at the truck stop, you can stop anywhere ...
Sounds like you have it down..... -
Once your in the truck with your trainer see if he has a cooler/fridge. Then see if your can share the space, hit WalMart or where ever and stock up the fridge! Keep away from the truck stop restaurants and fast food as they are expensive! Or limit the amount of times you eat in them. If i did eat inside I would get the soup and salad bar and fill up. Its healthier and cheaper! Once your on your own just keep to the basics of buying on the road unless you find a deal. Otherwise buy the stuff at home and take it with you! A good mini fridge will save you alot of money in the long run! I would suggest making a budget and stick with it!!!!
On a side note.... If you can avoid it. Do not keep reciepts in the truck!!!! Im not talking about fuel or toll reciepts, I meen food, cigs, soda, ect. As someone already said "it leaves a paper trail" DOT can and will nail you to a wall with that stuff. Just some friendly advice. (even if your running a e-log) -
