And all things must eventually come to an end...

A little while ago I got wind from a good friend of mine of a place that was going to be looking for a driver. They currently have 8 O/Os running liquid, but were looking to hire a company driver to run loads between their facilities. Sat down and talked to the owner and his right hand a few weeks ago, very laid back and open about things. We were able to come to terms and this morning I gave notice. September 16th will be my last day at Bulkmatic.

It was bittersweet... harder than I expected it would be.

As a company, I hate how they use/interpret the #### nanny cam and that whole point system they have to go along with it, but I also have to say overall I have been treated pretty #### good. If I needed something, I generally got it, if the truck needed something, it got it. No questions asked. I don't know how things work at other locations but the man at Griffith that is over all the drivers is a good egg, goes out of his way to work with ya. The money is there for the taking. I got lots of time off on my schedule. But the fact remains that each year I get a little older and it gets a little harder to be out pounding on a trailer in 92 degree blazing sun, sideways downpours or 5 above with a 15mph wind.

I still enjoy dry bulk, but I'm looking at 10 more years to full social security, and I don't think I have 10 more years of doing this in me, so after a lot of thought I decided to make the jump. It's a pretty good deal overall, and it's here now. Worried if I didn't take it and in a few years find that I can't do the unloading anymore there won't be a decent place to land, so going back to dragging a van and bumping docks.

Excited and sad at the same time.... Strange days...
