Bunk heaters

You need to run a quart of kerosene in it once a month. Just get another rubber hose and put in a bottle from Wal-Mart lamp section. It burns hotter and will clean out the chamber

 

Lets see. I am going to mount a device in my side compartment that has an open flame and uses oxygen. Capable of setting the entire truck on fire and me with it while I am asleep, or killing me with improperly vented fumes.
Am I going to save a few bucks by buying a copy cat unit from some unknown manufacturer in China or elsewhere? No
I have had 2 Air Top 2000's in the last 25 years of trucking. They are rugged, well built units. I will pay the premium, it is a very small cost for peace of mind.

 

I must have a unique Webasto 2000. I have done nothing to it since it was new, just run it a couple of times a month during the summer, per the manual. This is the third winter on it, and it does a great job. May try the Kero thing just to see if it does a little cleanup in it. But it does pretty good as is. Mine was a factory install.

 

Ya, my first Espar lasted maybe 4 years before it lunched itself. Cost around $360 to rebuild at Thermo King. Before getting it rebuilt I bought a brand new head for $500. Now I have two and one as a backup.

Those of you thinking about getting an Espar bunk heater go on Ebay. Lots of great deals on the whole kit. I am by no means a motor head and it was easy for me to install.

 

I have a 8y old Eberspacher and it still works fine.
At around 5y i replaced the glowcandle,which is normal.
Nothing keeps on working without maintenance.
