You need to run a quart of kerosene in it once a month. Just get another rubber hose and put in a bottle from Wal-Mart lamp section. It burns hotter and will clean out the chamber

Lets see. I am going to mount a device in my side compartment that has an open flame and uses oxygen. Capable of setting the entire truck on fire and me with it while I am asleep, or killing me with improperly vented fumes.
Am I going to save a few bucks by buying a copy cat unit from some unknown manufacturer in China or elsewhere? No
I have had 2 Air Top 2000's in the last 25 years of trucking. They are rugged, well built units. I will pay the premium, it is a very small cost for peace of mind. -
Combastion is not possible if blower wont working, cobmustion chamber design does not let fuel burn if mixture is too reach, and too lean becouse it ignites with glow pin and it is used only for starting. If temperature goes too low - flame detection sensor shuts it off too -
I must have a unique Webasto 2000. I have done nothing to it since it was new, just run it a couple of times a month during the summer, per the manual. This is the third winter on it, and it does a great job. May try the Kero thing just to see if it does a little cleanup in it. But it does pretty good as is. Mine was a factory install.

Those of you thinking about getting an Espar bunk heater go on Ebay. Lots of great deals on the whole kit. I am by no means a motor head and it was easy for me to install. -
I have a 8y old Eberspacher and it still works fine.
At around 5y i replaced the glowcandle, which is normal.
Nothing keeps on working without maintenance. -
Ok, lets talk about bunk heater's problems now.I'd say there are three kinds of problems. One kind is related with fuel. Winter fuel has many anty-gel additives and this fuel makes carbon deposits in evaporator till it totally clogged. It may happen it heater stops and cools down w/o venting. So changing ore cleaning evaporators is the problem #1.Other kind of problems is related with wear. Really this problem appeares after 3-5 years of use. We do not rebuild heaters fully, we just inspect all parts and change only worn parts.Ok, what can be worn? 1. Motors: bearings, brushes.2. Glow plug3. fuel pump. The third kind of problems is related with component relaibility, becouse any electronic board, any sensor, wire, actuator may fail, sometimes with overvoltage, thermall stress, vibrarions, static electricity ore just fail for unknown reason! So I used to fix control board, I used to change various sensors, fixing wires, cleaning connectors, changing fuel lines...
