Does fedex ground pay double time? I held a local P/DC job for 4 years that paid double time after 48 hrs a week. Needless to say, I rarely worked more than 45 hrs a week.

I don't work for fedex ground, but if the consensus is they are that bad than it's good to know so I won't "move up" to another company like the one I'm at now.

Gas hauling isnt bad work. It would be alot more forgiving on your body and the loading and unloading part is easy to learn. Given your choice of tanker companies in Maine I do think you would take a pay cut from where you are now and most likely forget about your weekends off though. I think the whole money for your life thing could be said for the transportation industry as a whole for the most part. Your health and sanity are far more important than that job if its becoming that unbearable.

I am thinking about tankers. I've hauled heating oil in straight trucks with 3000/4000 gallon tanks before (several years ago). In winter icy conditions etc. And I've driven class a in winter.

But surge was one thing with 3000/4000 gallons and a straight truck, I'm not so much a fan of 7000, 9000 gallons of it in a trailer in Maine winters.

Really not a big issue with surge in a gas tanker.

I do LTL p/d here in California, I usually work 10.5 to 11.5 hour days and even that feels like too much to me

Very possible, I thought I had it made after trucking 30 years I was making more $ than ever and A ruptured artery in my stomach, and quadruple bypass later, I am left with 2 aneurisms and a carotid artery that can not be fixed now I'm jumping thru the Social Security hoops now. Don't get me wrong I'm not blaming it all on trucking but 70-80 hrs. a week, week in and week out, I'm sure did not help. DO NOT trade your health for $ trust me it is NOT worth it.

okiedokie, Mudguppy, true blue and 2 others Thank this.
