I paid someone but realize now I could have done it myself.
-
Welk one of the trucks is involved in a roll-over. Chances are, driver will be fired from the job.
And here I am trying to create some income for the family by growing the business.
Really need some guidance to make this work. -
What more guidance are you looking for? I paid 730 permits to setup my authority. It was not cheap but it was done as quickly as possible. I got my insurance together and filed and all that is good. I found brokers that work with new carriers. I proved to them I am an excellent carrier. Now I have worked into the freight that doesn't hit the boards, ever. Will I tell you these contacts? Never. You have to figure out what works for you. We all do things a little differently.
Loose Leaf Thanks this. -
Did you start off with going into U.S?
Where you able to be home the next day and do the same brokers confirm your backhaul? -
Yes I started off with full Canadian and us authority.
On occasion the same broker would have a return load for me. There are no back hauls. You need to work with multiple brokers to work them against each other. You will eventually separate the wheat from the chaff. -

In the current market? You have a heck of a battle. You would be the new guy. Nobody is going to give you the top shelf stuff. There is still a surplus of trucks looking for work and rates have not improved fully yet. I would give it until mid next year to see what happens. I am optimistic things will improve in 2017 and beyond.
It is difficult at the beginning because when you are new and you post your truck, you still will receive few calls because you are unproven. The first 2 years are the hardest. Nobody likes doing fuel advances or wondering if the carrier they hired is financially stable enough to get their load picked up and delivered on time. They don't want to hear any of that. Factoring included. You have to be easy to deal with and very good at what you do. That is the key... -
Leasing to carriers doing the dry van racket is a waste of time. Perhaps if you picked and negotiated your own freight it could work.

Thanks for the response.
Quick question on insurance. Most likely the accidenr my driver did was preventable with a deductibe of $6.5k.
In this case is my driver liable of anything. I still to pay him around $2000 in wages.
Also, I believe the only thing you can claim from insurance is the cost of major components replaced. Is there anything else?
