Well I don't gauge the rates like all the other brokers in the world. I ask the truck what they want and get as close to that as I can. You don't have to take the cheap loads. I wish trucks didn't take cheap loads so the shipper would be forced to pay more for the loads and we all make more money. If you hate it so much get out of logistics.

See right there your one of the problems when a customer calls me on a load I give them a price they don't say how cheap can you get this load moved for me I have all the same broker tolls as you do maybe more I see what there posting rates at ITS told me that 18% is what 60% of the brokers operate at

I have a shipper that moves dryvan freight I couldn't tell you the first thing about dryvan rates so I looked it up that lane was paying drivers $1.78 /mi and showed shippers/brokers were getting $2.38-2.46 a mile so why should a broker get over $.50 a mile???

Honestly in my business my only concern is that I make a profit. I don't care if a broker makes 10k on a load that pays me 2k, if I hauled it it met or exceeded my needed profit margin. If it does not meet or exceed my needed profit margin, it's not my worry. People are focusing on others profitibility and not their own, that is a mistake.

Ya I think the same way until you move something that you don't make anything off of only to find out they took $2,000 off the top and left you with only $1,000

Shippers go broke all the time is that the fault of brokers or truckers? Why is it the broker's fault if a truck takes a load for a low price? They had a choice, right?

I do it all the time if I stuck to my guns I would never leave the house I use to think standing my ground was the way to do it after only making $11,260 in the last 6 weeks it's time to head out

I think it's because most don't have a choice at the time they make the call. Either keep the truck rolling for cheap or go hungry. Maybe they made poor financial decisions and bought a big house they didn't need, or fancy toys, or fancy car, or maybe they gamble, but probably just bad financial decisions in general, makes it so that they get desperate, and they have to take it cheap, and thus they get a reputation for booking cheap, and they never get anything better.

After reading this forum intently for the last 6 mos, I've come to the conclusion that it's probably always better in general to over-quote than it is to under-quote, even if it is grossly over-quoting.

See that's the problem right there. You can't say "they don't have a choice" then point to all the bad choices they made as excuses. I made a choice many years ago to live debt free. You see what I post, at least 2 or 3 times weekly, patience is everything in getting a rate. You ever seen me complain about booking a cheap load? With all the other workload who needs a bank breathing down their neck? That excuse doesn't fly and neither does "it's impossible to live without debt. BS, several operators on here who have and if you'll notice they never complain about that cheap load they booked cause they're not booking any.
