Lets say you have a load that pays you $4 a mile on 500 miles... Is it really all that difficult to find reliable carriers to cover the load? Just tossing a number out here.. If you brokered it out at say $2 a mile to random carriers every time the load popped would 9 out of 10 of those carriers provide reliable, dependable service? If you found a carrier that did it for $3 a mile and you never lost sleep over the load would you prefer to just give it to them every time? What I'm wondering is does price really make the difference in the service you get from a carrier and is there a fine line on a price that may be higher than what you could get other carriers to haul it for, but yet even if that price is a little higher, it's worth it because the $3 a mile carrier is dependable??? Do you partner with dependable carriers and pay a little more than loads going to random carriers??? Just curious about your thoughts on that...

How can the O/O be greedy by asking a certain amount if he doesn't know how much is in it?
And what if I called you on a load and asked for 85% of the shipper's rate? Or even 90%?volvodriver01 and areelius Thank this. -
I haul alot of coils and they should not pay any less than $2/mile but for some reason alot of brokers list them at $1.50-$1.78/mile and someone always seem to move em. I hauled for one broker that treated me pretty good for a couple years and next thing you know the same coils I moved at $650 on 172 miles are now getting moved for $302.11. The only time I haul for him anymore is when he is in a pinch and needs something moved now. I know the shipper is still paying the same amount of money as before but now the broker is sliding alot more into his pockets. What a shame.

Called on a load yesterday picking up somewhere in LA
broker: offers $950.00
My counter offer: I need $1200
Broker: $1050 im all in anymore and im losing on the load.
Me: Sorry but I would need $1200
Broker: Well if I can't get it covered I will give you a call.
Me: Ok have a great day and ty for your time.
Well this afternoon im playing about on the PC and the Broker calls me I need that load picked up before 1600 and we have $1300 can you do it ?
I had been watching the price go up on that load for the past 2hrs and was waiting for it to hit $1400 and then I was going to call them but they beat me to it. Still happy enough with the price lol.volvodriver01 and starsonwindow Thank this. -
Just curious. -
You know the shipper, so contact them and offer to move their coils at a 10% discount off what the broker is charging and cut out the middleman. Or the less desirable option - contact another smaller broker and turn them on to the shipper. Get the brokers into a bidding war so that they end up cutting their own throats on the rate.areelius Thanks this. -

Besides why would I want to Peeve him when he has regular loads out of the area's we run and I know what that particular load will pay if I push it!
Everyone seems to take it all personally when a broker offers a cheap rateDon't get me wrong there are certain Brokers I never waste a phone call with because you know its going to be an insulting rate and even I don't have the patience to be polite when someone offers me $800 on 550 miles.

Sometimes money does matter. Not a pll the time. It might just be a since of security for me when I have a good paying load to pay the carrier for more and in my eyes it's only right. And I do tend to pay carriers that I run with more. I form a relationship with itch them they run the same loads over and over again and all I have to do is send them a rate con with the rate and I am done. And it is harder to find reliable carriers than one would think. There is a lot of shady carriers out there.
