Here is the difference. When you buy a "new truck" you are not required for an e-test for 7 years. If you buy a used truck, even if it is 1 month old, you do not qualify for the 7 year exemption. When you order a glider kit in Ontario, it is viewed as buying a part. It is not considered a truck. You need to find someone to put it together, and they become the manufacturer. In that case, St. Catharine's FL would be the manufacturer and you would be buying a "new truck" directly from the manufacturer and therefore eligible for the 7 year bypass on emissions.
This is how I understand our system to work, at least.
I may have a truck available for purchase in the next few months. It is just as described above, but is a 2000 model with S60. Lots and lots of repairs, all paperwork available. I am also from Ontario and live about 250 km from Toronto. Message me if you may be interested.

There is something to do with buying a new vehicle from the US and trying to import it to Canada. I believe it has to be minimum of 2 years old to import it. Also when importing, they check for vehicle standards for the model year of the vehicle, which means a glider will never meet the requirements ... this is part of the deal where they say you have to have daytime running lights and a speedo and odo in KM not miles. For cars it isn't a big deal since very few issues with emissions like catalytic converters and such. They have laws like this to help keep things expensive up here.

You cant import a glider into canada.
But it is still legal to build one in canada.
Ive got 2 gliders here in Canada and there still building them. -
From what I've seen just in our little fleet of day cabs, Schneider does not like to spend money on getting trucks fixed.
Have to tell the DM a half a dozen times just to get a light bulb fixed. That's no exaggeration.
They had a yard truck that was just a wreck, finally a guy dropped a trailer with it, same thing, they never repaired it or listen to driver write up. Now he's terminated and it probably for sale too.
I'd thing long and hard about buying something from these guys.
Some rookies drove that truck you want, consider that, engine always screaming at 1800 rpm.
Think about it.milehunter43 Thanks this. -
So what dave..If you spend 20 thou on a used glider, spend another 20-30 thou and rebuild to your likeling your still 1000 times better than a new emissions truck..
Your gonna waste your $$ only if you dont know or pay attention to what your looking to buy.. -
