I'm lookin into buying my own truck to get on with some companies that pretty much are owner ops like some Intermodal work , pulling logs etc and I know about buying from a dealership but right now I don't need a prom queen for a truck I just want it to be in good running condition and can get the job done.. Ive been looking around at some auctions and I was curious to know can u still operate a Commercial vehicle with a salvage title , like the truck runs drives and can pass inspection .. Is there anything wrong with that @Chinatown I know you are the go to guy in these forums

I have very little mechanical skills. I like trucks that have warranties. Therefore, I advise on buying or leasing new equipment.

I understand that I have some mechanical skills and I don't mind getting dirty but for the time being knowing that I'm more than likely going to be local I'll take my. Chances

Unless you are planning on Running under your own authority, find out the policy of who you are leasing to.

Friend has an 01 Classic XL, he leased to JB Intermodal a few years back, their shop had to inspect and certify the truck was in good shape.

You need to find the work you want to do before buying IMO .. A container truck and a log haul truck are different animals.. Buy the right unit for what you get into .. It will save you money in the long run

Sounds like you're looking for more of a vocational truck/one size fits all. A truck with 46k rears, 4 way lockers, maybe a bit heavier steer axle (like 14k lbs), 18 speed tranny and 3/8" frame rails. Those specs will make it a bit heavier than your average fleet spec truck but it'll handle quite a wide range of applications and off road work without getting hammered apart.
