Temp tag purchased at the dmv in Georgia. Temp bobtail insurance (to be safe if u choose). A copy of the bill of sale and title is very helpful.
And don’t volunteer commercial status at the scales! If they ask what are your plans for this truck, just tell them you just bought and plan to take it home to work on it. And say less. U can keep a logbook to be on the safe side, but I remember going through New Mexico, and they tried getting me to volunteer commercial status, then once I did not, the asked for title, bill of sale, and temp tag. They proceeded to say I didn’t need logs because it was a private sale and the vehicle is not currently being used commercially nor has dot numbers. (Bobtail rail only) ...
But I continued to keep a paper log to be safe. And called ahead at weigh stations to see if I needed to pull in. Georgia will probably be closed at night, Alabama too, Mississippi will probably quick weigh and bypass at night, Louisiana, idk they don’t seem to pick a schedule lol usually closed early mornings. And Texas has is 90% closed 10% doing full inspection
Calling Ooida won’t hurt. Ooida sold me a temp bobtail insurance policy. (Print this out!) I think they told me I need temp tags and fuel permits for every state. But that’s if it’s already leased on. Here’s another option, you leave the truck there until you do have, plates, insurance, decals and etc. then your already in the systemcasemill Thanks this. -
Well, the location has changed from Georgia to Iowa. The one I wanted in GA was already taken. I talked to the dealer, they do supply temp tags to get it wherever. Of course I will have it insured before I drive it off the lot. So getting it back to Texas won't be a problem. Now I'm looking for solutions to getting it registered (tags) without having to pay Texas sales tax of 6.25%. I'll be leased to the company that I'm currently driving for as a company driver.
I also have my own authority from when I was hauling rocks. I had a 96 freightliner piece of crap that I just sold to the salvage yard and Texas charged me $1800 to register it when I initially bought it. Any thoughts on the best way to go about it? -
Why are you buying from Lone Mountain when there are a million decent trucks right here in Tx?

Cool. Let me guess, they really liked you, so they gave you the best deal ever. I bet they even lost money on that deal.

Really... that the best you can do...
