I think he means where is a good place for a used truck.

There really is no place better. Most trucks are purchased at auctions, trade ins, or fleet sales. They get transported around the country for re-sale. I got a truck from NJ, but i bought it from a dealer in Cincinnatti. So best bet is to do research and find what truck you want and travel to get it. Places like Arrow Truck Sales will transport the truck to the location closest to you.

Here I thought the OP was asking what headaches there are to registering / buying vehicles state by state. If that is the case..........

    Maine:
5.5% Sales Tax on any sale (unless you have a tax id#, then it is tax free, also tax free if purchased through private individual). The town Clerk will hold you to the sales tax at time of registration.
Must be a resident of the state and drivers license here for registration. Resident can be a post office box with out actually living here.
Vehicles MUST pass annual vehicle inspection. They crawl over the vehicle worse that a level one DOT inspection. A dashlight blown or seat belt light that is on will get you failed.
You must pay an excise tax that is based on list price of vehicle per year (prior to registration). 8%? I would have to ask our town clerk to be certain on that. It is 4:54 am now, she is still asleep and it is a weekend.
Registration per vehicles motorcycles to motorscooters (mopeds) $5-15, cars to pickups $30, Class 8 trucks (dont know about others sorry) $250 per year.
You must also show minimum liability insurance required by state law prior to MDOT registration.

If a vehicle is sold here. The owner keeps the license plate as the plate is registered to the resident and not the vehicle.
If you dont have a plate to drive it down the road, you can visit either a state police or the local constable and get a 5 day paper plate for $15.
