You're concerned about the possible "wasted" cost of the flight, while in a transaction that is likely 100x more in $$.
Personally, I wouldn't have even booked a flight UNTIL the clear title and all paperwork was in order... and in hand.
The flight likely can be rescheduled. If not, I'd still hold off until clear title & all related paperwork is in hand.

    Cetane+ Thanks this.

In MN, the owner of the vehicle gets the title when the ownership is transferred, HOWEVER, the lender or financial institution creates a lien release card that must be attached to the title to transfer/sell it. The lender is named on the title and then holds the lien release card until the vehicle is paid off.

Some craigslist sellers are taking cash for a vehicle, then following the new owner home having an extra key and procede to steal the vehicle back with all the info title, vin etc, the same evening. The purchaser calls the cops and has no info like vin, plate numbers etc. BUYER BEWARE

titles are sometimes called pink slips, although I haven't heard that term in quite some time, but to the OP, I would release any funds until He has the pink slip (title) in hand, Hoe do you know this guy?,

I drove nearly 300 miles to get a pickup that I bought from a guy over the phone. Everything was supposed to be good until I called from the road first thing in the morning to set a time to be at the guys place. I got his ol' lady, or whatever she was to him, turns out it was titled in her name and she wouldn't sign the title that he said he had free and clear. I finally got his cell phone voice mail and scolded his wagon for being a sissy and letting her break his word. A number of things can go wrong.

Yeah, in Ca. we call them "pink slips" because originally they were pink in color, not so anymore. remember the song by the Beach boys from the 60's, "little deuce coupe" quoting now, "and more thing I got the pink slip daddy". Anyway, I digress. I know this is after the fact, but, use your common sense when buying motor vehicles. Verify that the seller has title/registration in hand, in his name, BEFORE you travel out to buy.
