I don't know if this is the right thread, if not let me know!
So I am looking at a GMC General, it's a sleeper cab truck and it's just so 80's I can't really resist it at all. I do not have a class A cdl, but do have my class B which I use to run dump truck in Ohio, and do not intend to use the GMC for commercial use, and can't seem to get any straight information on what I would have to do to bring the truck home, title and insure it properly without doing/paying too much for useless things.
The truck is in Kentucky, so it's not far from home, but I am unsure if i would need to get temp plates in Kentucky, just to bring it to Ohio. Then I also know normally out of state titles need to have an inspection certificate, which for smaller cars/trucks I just go to a dealership for, but, this is a big rig. The one I usually go to doesn't know what to do with one, as they never have done it.
Just wondering if anyone has gone through this before, or knows the steps that would be needed. Thank you!

@jamespmack is in Ohio maybe he has some ideas.

Not far away, the best way to get it home safely is have it towed or hauled,

Sorry, busy day. I would get 30 day tags, bobtail (non) trucking policy and make a sign that says "not for hire" or "in transit" on the door. You will need inspection just like cars. I have the chevy garage or dmv. It's not really safety. Kind of a joke inspection.
062 and Dr. Balbarian Thank this. -

Law enforcement can also do vin inspections and your B license will work with no trailer. Get a temp permit where you purchase the truck and drive it home no big deal. Put not for hire sign on and roll home.
Dr. Balbarian Thanks this. -
Talk to your personal insurance agent tell them you will be using it as an RV and insure it as such. Have a 84 KW that is used to pull my racecar trailer and camp trailer with no big deal. A lot of people have figured out it cheaper to buy a used tractor as opposed to a 1 ton pickup.
Dr. Balbarian and jamespmack Thank this. -
What? You mean there's not enough money floating around for everyone to have an $80,000+ pickup?D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
No, the million I won on the Polish is 1$ for a million years.
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
I live in Ohio and bought a truck with an Indiana title last year and only had to have the title notorized, no inspection needed.
The not for hire on the door will work, no CDL class A needed for this.
Be carful when you start showing the truck, if any $ is awarded you become commercial and will need a class A. If you don’t compete for the $ you can get away with CDL at all.
I speak from first hand experience....the 379 in my avatar is my rig I drive with no CDL at all.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.
