Hey guys, I am finally going to be buying my truck and trailer next weekend, I am a Pennsylvania resident and buying the truck from Ohio, will they issue me a temp plate for truck and trailer for $18.50 a plate, like they do cars? I will be paying registration and getting pa title and plates as soon as I can.

Same with me, dealer just through in the temp tag as I had a 500 mile trip back home. Still had to get bobtail insurance, and I put a tag on door saying in transit not for hire. Some say this is not needed but I did it for convenience going thru scales.
If your getting the trailer from the same location as truck, you may be entitled to do more, dot number, etc.

It's from a private owner and i am buying truck out right, I will have my insurance and a bill of sale. On Ohio's website, they use the word vehicle when referring to temp tags,,. I can't find a different page for semis and trailers? They also say they are good for 45 days.. I just wonder if semi falls under the category of vehicle?

Can't help with Ohio. Better get someone else to answer this. My truck was from a dealer due to all the test I wanted done.

I am in Ohio and can tell you they told me no such thing as a temp tag in Ohio...at least for you and I...at a walk in licence bureau. I still find it hard to believe and I never put it to the test....because I brought my truck from a El Paso Texas dealership which issued a temp tag on the spot (logged in to Texas State website) which was stuck up high inside my windshield. Then my State of Ohio had a $3.00 inspection (verified VIN in person) before title could be transferred and then the rest of the bla bla bla....

I would think it is the same'ish. You guys should meet at a dealer or contact one because trying to figure it out in Ohio was silly...no one seemed to know about temp tags for a big rig around here... (a license bureau and a title bureau)

Ok, called ohio bmv which is I guess a DMV type place. It's the government office that deals with titles and such. They told me that I need to show up with seller, they would notarize him signing off on titles for truck and trailer, then I will pay 18.50$ per tag (1 for truck and 1 for trailer) and they will be good for 45 days. So that is how that is going to go I guess.

Let us know if that works. It seems when buying from a private seller its hard to get a temp tag. Most guys just get the insurance and drive it home with bill of sale or leave the tag thats on it and mail it back to the seller .

    Mattflat362 Thanks this.
