HI All -- I live in Washington state, and I'm buying a truck in North Carolina. Dealer says they don't issue temp tags. Does anyone have experience with this? Do I need to get temp tags from WA or NC, or do I just need the bill of sale on me in case I get stopped? Thanks!

Bill of sale and insurance. That’s all you need.

And write on the door over some kind of tape, “Not For Hired”.

I've done this a couple times. Washington sells a three day trip permit. My local licensing place sells me them for 25 bucks or so. I have taken multiple with me and stuck them in the window and go. I'm really rural so my licensing guys are easy. Don't stress it. Enjoy the drive.

Legally, any motor vrhicle needs to be registered when driving down the highway. (in any state) You can chance it, but Ar./Mo./and a few others will catch you on the scales. You might check with DMV in N.C. and other states will honor it.
