It is all done at the EGR valve, all of the trucks are like you describe... The X15 is a CM-2350 with upped compression and an isolated fuel pump.

Good for you. I hope you have incredible success! And you should, I miss those old motors, service and roll... Just like my Mom's Honda. And like the last seven trucks I once owned. :-(

I was reading this thread from Broke Down 69. He went out and got his first truck I think a 2013 something with all the emissions crap. A lot of people came on there to say what a terrible mistake it was and got all over him. BD69: The Owner Operator Chronicles

But he seemed to do pretty well and now he's bought an old Pete pre-emissions. I guess he was one of the lucky ones.

I watched the Rawze video though and that is an eye opener. I'll definitely want to do all that and get inside the engine. I can get around fairly well doing minor work.

But more to my story. I have available over $30,000 in cash credit. That is credit cards that could be could converted to cash and well over that in credit available along with some actual cash. So I could weather some major repairs but of course would then need the truck to do pretty well to pay all that off and make some money.

I've been around awhile. In fact when I was younger in trucking I never wanted to be an owner operator. When I saw owner operators they always looked poor and worse off than company drivers. I said I don't want to be like that guy.

But I am single, older now, don't have a lot of bills and could even get rid of my apartment and live in the truck. No alimony, no child support, no big ticket items other than a 2014 pickup I'm paying off. So failure for me would not ruin a family and children or anything like that. I am pretty much a loner and not proud of it. But less consequences in a situation like this.

EGR is all part of the engine, not the aftertreatment system. It pulls some exhaust from manifold, sends it through a cooler and meters it into the fresh air charge going into the intake manifold. The goal is to displace some of the oxygen so the combustion temperatures stay under the temperature threshold to form N0x. Unfortunately that causes more soot in the exhaust that the DPF needs to collect.

Some of us look miserable because we are.... We work, we earn good money, we are not out here to prove anything. This is not the same industry it used to be when many of us dressed rather nicely. I used to have my ####kickers custom made.

Today, Carhartt pocket t, Carhartt jeans and Reebocks. My shirts have oil stains on them, my jeans are stained too. I work on my truck and find the clothing pretty comfortable. I'm single, recently divorced, everything is paid for. I have a very good credit score too, I could walk into any truck dealer tomorrow and buy or lease a new truck on my signature. And that is not going to happen.

No F'n WAY DUDE! I do not want that PAYMENT! The reason I abuse myself with my current truck and multiple in frames.

Find an older FLD with a Cummins N-14 or Detroit Series 60. In frame it with your credit card and go make some money. Lease on with a regional or like me short haul expedite outfit. You can bang off three to four grand a week take home with the right outfit. That is after fuel. Chicken lights and glitz are for the fools. This is a business, not a weekend at the Khardashians. ;-)

I'm in no hurry, just sitting around researching all this. I'm in no hurry at all. I can take the next two months off I need to. I'm going to rethink the whole thing. I live in OKC so I could get some old junker and haul diesel out to the oil fields. Though I might need to have a pump installed.

Less road noise becuase it will spend most of its time on side of road. But hey if that’s what appeals to you then buy one

I worked in the oil fields up in North Dakota, made enough to by my truck, paid cash for it. It is still free and clear, me, I'm broke. Great credit, no bills to speak of, 2017 Silverado in the drive way, lease, $350 a month. no credit card debt, small personal loan on the last in frame and the APU. House is paid for, three acres, really nice house.. blah, blah, blah...

Go find a nice owner operator truck, they are out there, $15,000 or so, and go through it. And then go make some money. Do not worry about the ELD and all of that bs... This is a business. Good luck, and don't be a victim. ;-)

The 2014 changed up the emissions box . I have 2014 cascadia going on almost 2 yrs , it was a off lease prime truck with Apu . No emissions problems yet , biggest expense was a set of injectors and a egr valve . In 2 yrs one major breakdown , not bad . Other than that keeping the truck Aligned and tires balanced are my biggest hassle. The Detroits and Volvos hold their value , paccar and Cummins seem to not hold up . Most FL dealers offer some sort of warranty on trucks they sale so look for that , I've been seeing after treatment warranties offered with these trucks . Good luck
