Had the print sheet of this from the local dealer. http://www.cat.com/cda/layout?m=389285&x=7&f=429385
Will definitely be interested in hearing how it turns out, how it runs etc. Good luck.

They say it should be done middle of next week. I'll let you know how it shakes out. Do you have one that might be getting close to an overhaul?
-
Yeah, they said they could turn it back out in 3/4 days. Current mileage is a little shy of 800,000 miles & has never been opened. How many miles do you have on yours now? Mine also needs more power as it is a split torque 1450/1550. They said they would turn it up to 430/1650 & still be covered under warranty at no additional charge.

To change the engine hardware from an MBL to a 2KS is easy, but how is he going to change the file in the ECM? He needs CAT to give him the proper passwords and show the Interlock Code change in the records with your engine serial number to be able to give you a CAT 4 year warranty. If he changes the file in the ECM to a 2KS outside of CAT then you will not have a warranty in the future when another dealer does a Warranty Download of the ECM to get paid for a failure you have out on the road. CAT will record the Engine Serial Number and ECM Serial Number. They will then record your engine as tampered with and deny all warranty claims in the future.

My mechanic says he has a connection out in Utah than can give him the proper codes to put in there. He also said he has an ECM off of a 2KS we could throw on there as an alternative option.

Mine is just a youngster with 653,000 miles and about 18,500 engine hours.

The only way he is going to be able to do it is by using the used 2KS ECM on your engine. CAT has records of your current ECM serial number that corresponds with your engine serial number. To modify your existing MBL ECM with a 2KS file is asking for warranty problems in the future. Also if the 2KS ECM is rated at 370 Hp and he uprates it to 430 Hp outside of the CAT password system and the records don't show the correct Interlock Code for the 430 Hp rating, CAT can and will deny warranty if they catch it during a warranty claim in the future

Mr Haney knows more about CAT stuff than CAT does.
He is also the guy you want programming &/or turbos etc. when/if needed in the future.

Thank you for your knowledge! I'm going to call up there again on monday and make sure all the ducks are in a row for that 2KS ECM.
