SAR might be on to something here as well. We always cut the power (Cat cut off switch on heavy equipment) when welding on equipment, as well as ground as close to where we are welding as possible. Cat ought to provide a test ECM just to continue the process of elimination (not sure whether or not they do).

Good luck, and please keep us posted!

    SAR Thanks this.

Been done this road with C15 before and very aggregating. Everytime it had been bad reman injector. Best way to find is pull manifold and fire it up. Sometimes able to make them misfire by reving them up to 2100 with fan on, let off for second and right back into throttle. Don't be surprised if more than one is misfiring. Best cure is new cat injectors, not reman. Platinum kits come with reman injectors.

    PROBLEM SOLVED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12 months and well over $20,000 and i believe my horse is fixed. Heres what the problem was and a good idea that other owners of Pete 379's with CAT engines may also have, or come accross this problem at one time or another.
A month ago, another broker / friend of mine was on the shoulder, on route to deliver his load. He said his truck "completely shut down" (he has a 2000 Pete 379, C-15 engine) . His breakdown woke me up yesterday, when i started thinking about his problem (which i was able to fix for him over the phone) and my popping / stumbling/ power loss on my 2003 Pete 379X, 6NZ CAT C-15.
    From my previous posts, i believe i described my problem as thoroughly as i could, and a lot of guys replied in effort to help, which i greatly appreciated. In a matter of fact, a lot of guys text me and we have been working together to solve all our problems. OK...no more delaying, here it is ;
Inside the frame rail, drivers side, beside the left steer tire, Peterbilt has a 150 amp circuit breaker, which is best seen using a mirror. The circuit breaker / circuit protector, is small, a bit bigger than your thumb, has 2 threaded posts on it, a nut on each post. One post is where power supply connects to, the other, 3 wires of large yet various guages / thickness wires are also connected to. These 3 wires are connected to your ECM ( computer) your alternator voltage regulator circuit, and the last wire powers your fuse / breaker panel at your left foot kick panel (sitting in drivers seat) I was initially going to try installing a new alternator, so i bought one and after greasing the truck yesterday i was going to install it because my volt meter (dash mounted) was pulsing upwards of 14-14.5 volts, my lights would flicker, and i started burning out bulbs and L.E.D.'s.
But i put the alternator back in the box, and decided to have a second look at the circuit breaker in the frame rail ( i looked at this breaker 10 months ago quickly, with a mirror, and decided it looked ok, and went back to tackle fuel related stuff, which is what it felt like when my truck popped and stumbled and carried on)
First, i disconnected all batteries (theres a lot of power at this breaker and i didnt want to fry my ECM ). Then, i removed both nuts from the 2 threaded posts. It was then that i realized there was a lot of oxydization (green) that crumbled out. Using my pneumatic die grinder with a wire wheel connected, i buffed out and cleaned up the 4 ring terminals, one by one. I then used a toothbrush sized wire brush and buffed clean the 2 threaded connectors on the circuit breaker. Smeared dielectric silicone (non conductive grease) on each threaded rod and remounted each ring terminaled wire back the way they initially were . I then used a pair of vice grips to hold the fine thread nuts, one by one. Buffed up each nut on the bench grinder wire wheel. Put it all back together . My volt meter on my dash now is charging at 13.5 volts, lights dont flicker anymore, and most of all.....after doing nothing more but think and stew on what my problem was with my new ride, all problems are gone.
I did a little more home work, and found out that one of those 3 wires on the power demand side feeds the ECM and all sensors of course. My stumbling felt just like half an injector misfire, or air in the fuel supply to my engine.
Ive been trucking and working on trucks and engines since 1981, thats 36 years, but this problem stumped me, stumped the Ontario head office technicians at CAT, another local CAT dealer /shop, all the techs at Peterbilt, "CAT Man " on "Just Answers" (where i spent a good amount of money) and a local heavy truck shop, where i spent over $13,000, and a lot of other high end technicians.
In the end, perseverance and determination and being pissed off to no end, fixed my truck. After all, when you roll out of the shop, and they have your money, they move on to the next job, and your problems are still your problems.
Hofefully this post will help others. If we all stick together, maybe we can solve the stuff nobody else can.If you need help, shoot me a text ; 905 746 5505
    All the best.

    Problem solved guys,,,,
The circuit protection in left frame rail beside steer tire was oxysdized. Cleaned it up and im off running. Unbelievable !!!
So many CAT mechanics said it was fuel related, or a injector that i had to let get worse to show its ugly face more. Peterbilt racked up a bill around $5k, another shop around $13k, truck was at 2 different CAT shops (CATdealers) but they too were stumped
The 150 amp relay / circuit protector feeds power to the ECM, all sensors, alternator voltage regulator, your fuse panel at the left kick panel etc. Everyone, includidng me, thought the 12 month popping, stumbling etc and power loss was fuel and / or injector related. Nope !!!
half an hour and a wire brush, all problems gone
Text me if you need support

Congrats man, I've been following this thread closely. Does anybody know where the same relay is located on an 01 W900? Have a similar intermittent situation that's just enough to piss you off and I too am tired of chasing gremlins...

Hi Truck 307. I have been searching for a vibration under load, and have done all the injectors already. I just happend to stumble onto your issues, and thought I would ask. Do you know if my 2007 Peterbilt would have that same circuit breaker as your 2003? I am going to get under there this weekend with an mirror and see if I can find one. I have been wondering about ecm issues myself. The truck just does not seem to run the way it used too, and sometimes has a dead pause, almost like you hit a wet steel bridge joint and broke tracton for a second.
    Thanks
    Andy
