I have an 03 pete and its crazy, I accidently found that thing on the inside of my rail just last week and had no idea what the hell it was for. I was trying to pinpoint what was throwing code 42 in my cat. Turned out my issue was the ecm lost its internal memory. Cat installed a new ecm. Good to know the info you provided.

That code 42 is caused by that breaker you mentioned. It will short out the ECM so many times that the ROM chips burn out and you get the code 42.
I'm a specialist with electrical and see it all the time. I always do battery cable checks on a truck first. You be surprised how many times cleaning them babies up solve a lot of problems. In Florida, we get corrosion inside the cables under the sheaths. They expand from the heat, then when they cool they will pull in the moisture and corrode the wires. Techs don't know to look for that, but electricians will. Very few electricians out there anymore... Sadly.
Good luck!Bean Jr., Kw Owners Club, Klleetrucking and 4 others Thank this. -

Went ahead and performed this project as a preventitive measure. I guess mine was on borrowed time too. It was all green and corroded. Cleaned up the terminals and all connections to new condition and added the dielectric grease. Pretty easy project. Having a mirror helps as mentioned
Kw Owners Club, Klleetrucking and Oxbow Thank this. -
Old thread but im having a similar problem with my 2002 c15 6nz. I loose my accerator peddle all together sometimes and then others it just spits and sputters. Violently when accelerating on the high side of the gears. Im gonna try the circuit breaker to see if it fixes mine as well

Monitor throttle position sensor on Cat ET when problem occurs.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
In the end, after years of stumbling, shaking, 3 gears broken ( same gears on all 3 trannys installed) rear seals replaced, then severe leaking again. My problem ended up being the fuel return line.
Years of hot fuel making it's way back to the tanks, caused the inner walls of the stratoflex fuel hose to degrade. The top wall inside , was as if a glowing hot teaspoon was slid inside the return line, and a flap like cut in the inside of the hose would fold down, blocking fuel movement, restricting fuel flow.
The fuel temperature sensor ( which before the head) sent temp info to the ECM, but temps were much higher
" AFTER" the sensor, as restricted fuel couldn't leave the head. The flap caused rapid pulsing of fuel, and simultaneously rapidly changing fuel temperatures, which the ECM didn't know about
It was a challenge.. !! And costlyOxbow Thanks this. -
So it was a return line? not the electrical? Thanks for keeping up with this post.
