I have driven an '05 C-15 the last couple of trips. This truck gets terrible fuel mileage, and the power is somewhat down also, not to mention the weak engine brake. They have several of these identical trucks. One other gets the same mileage, which averages about 5.4, while some others average over 6.5, with one getting 7.0 one trip.

The engines that get the worst mileage seem to have a lot of injector chatter also.

What would be the correct settings on the overhead to get these engines running the way they should. The blowby is minimal, and they do not use any oil during a 5000 mile trip.

BXS-34590 is one of the offenders.

All of out trucks have C-15 Acerts. All have a certain amount of injector chatter when driving. The ones with the loudest chatter have less power, and get worse fuel mileage.

With the help of some of the people in this forum I got my 05 BXS up from the very low 5's when I bought it to mid 6's, with my 660,000 mile 379 Pete without even running the rack. Ist, I slowed down from 70 to 63 - 64, 2nd, bought a set of the cheapest Donaldson mufflers, cut out the bottom baffle with an air grinder and got a quiet straight thru muffler, 3rd, got a leak in the air cooler fixed, 4th, replaced the 90 GPH fuel filter head with a 120 GPH head and a Luberfiner FS1212 fuel filter, lastly, a fuel temp wire. And I picked up probably 50 - 60HP in the process! Next, the PDI 725HP ECM that is said to give 5 to 6 tenths improvement in mileage.
