Hi All
My name is Dominik and this is my first post on this forum as I have only just arrived to America (only 2 weeks but have been driving 6 years in Europe) so HELLO everybody.
My employer has bought me a lovely peterbilt 379 made in 2006 with cat c15 engine and it has been running on rotella 15W40 oil.
We are looking for information if that engine can run on a synthetic oils such as 5W40. It would be handy as I will regularly drive it to North Alberta.
C-15 can it run on synthetic oil?

If you are considering synthetic, I would recommend Schaeffer 9000 5w40 full synthetic. A very high quality oil. And I can get it for less than $20 a gallon when I get a drum of it, it is delivered FREE to my home, and they also throw in free oil sample kits with it. All you have to order is $300 worth to get in on the free shipping thing. Even if you ordered in smaller quantities than a 55 drum like I do, a couple of oil changes worth of oil will take you over the $300 threshold for free shipping. If you take a look at oil samples results that get posted at the BITOG website, you will find that Schaeffer really shines. The 9000 5w40 has a pour point of -42F, so it would work quite well for your cold country running.

so we will get a 5W40 oil for it.
Thank You -
Umm I would recommend against making the switch if that engine has alot of miles on it. If you do your most likely going to be leaking oil all over the place.

Right. Synthetic will not create leaks. It will expose leaks that would have been there already if the engine wasn't so crudded up with sludge and goop around the seals. Synthetics usually have a very robust additive package that will tend to clean out deposits. If the engine was well taken care of, and is clean inside, then synthetic will not change a thing and the old wive's tale about synthetics will remain that....an old wive's tale.

well find me a 2006 running regular oil that is "clean"
so creating leaks or exposing leaks is semantics

In all my research Schaeffer is the only company that I have found that sells a true synthetic that is not blended with group 3 oils. Some people that use amsoil think it's a pure synthetic but its only a blend of cheaper mineral base oils with synthetic additives it's okay if you change you oil regularly but not for long term changes with a bypass filter, I just find it weird how with the internet people don't do a little research..............Just saying..
