i've often woundered what the differance is between these two motors . Can anyone tell me, I've had several C-15's but not a C-16 so i was just asking to find out whats differant. I'm not looking for the negatives of either just the basic differance. Thanks

The C16 is a bigger liter motor. Atleast I think thats how it works...:biggrin_2552:

The C-15 is 14.6 Liters or 893 cubic inches in size and the C-16 is 15.8 Liters or 966 cubic inches in size. I'm not 100% sure on the C-16 on the cubic inches, but I'm close. I hate gettin' old, I'm starting to forget too much

I pretty sure that the c16 gets its larger displacement from a longer stroke. I have heard that the c16 are more prone to liner movement as compared to the c15 because the longer stroke puts more side load on the piston and therefore the liner.
also pre acert c15 go up to 550 and the c16 go to 600

I looked the C-16 cubic inch size is actually 964 not 966. Bore is 5.5" stroke is 6.7"

C-15 bore is 5.4" and stroke is 6.5"

The C16 has the longer stroke and slightly bigger bore giving it that extra 71 cubes by way of the 6.7" stroke.
Then the C15 Acert has the same stroke as the C16 now but retained the 5.4" bore from the C15 so a C15 Acert is 1/2 a C15 and 1/2 a C16

The C18 runs an even longer stroke in 7.2" and a 5.7" bore and you don't want to Rev those hard as the liners are thin.. The Cylinder Block and heads are the same for C15, C16 & C18
Many C16's have the same injectors and Turbo's as some C15's so its really only that extra stroke and slightly larger bore.

I didn't know the C15 and the C18 had the same block, interesting. So you could technically turn a C15 into a C18 and have a big bore truck motor.
