O.k Here's A Question that was posed to me lastnight and I said that i'd ask.
Is it easier for nonresidents to get a CDL in canada than it is here in the U.S?
One of the other drivers that drives a straight truck stated that it seems that every truck that he has run across that has B.C plates is being driven by a hindu or Pakastani that can't speak nor understand ENGLISH.
So Any Canadian Drivers that could shed some light?
Thanks

I don't know the answer but just because they don't speak the language too well doesn't mean they are non residents. There are a lot of fairly recent immigrants that are driving for a living.
On a side note, if you ever drive through the Toronto turn off your CB unless you want to hear a bunch of idiots spewing racial crap. I'm usually proud to say I'm Canadian but the drivers out there sicken me with what comes out of their mouths. -
Has it really gotten that bad, in such a short time? Or was I just being ignorant, and not recognizing it? -
It depends. It's usually pretty quiet but the only thing you hear other than traffic reports are pretty nasty and all involve the term 'rag head'. Everytime I'm there, which is once or twice a week, I hear something along those lines.

Thanks guys. I guess that answers my classmates question.

They are not non-residents. Most are landed immigrants but we are also seeing many (younger guys) that have been born in Canada.

The response we get here is probably the same as the U.S. with Hispanics and Mexicans. I give these people credit only in there motto of "one for all and all for one" which builds a strong community.
I believe that they are citizens of Canada or the U.S. Their business community is funding their community to create trucking schools for their own people. Some regulated and some not, which the government is now investigating. I have met a lot of nice immigrants in the trucking industry and some bad ones. The advantage they have is that they are still a community people. Us North Americans are not.
If it is easier for them to get a CDL then they will lose in the end because their lack of compliance will get them in trouble eventually. -
You are right. There have been some driving schools shut down that were issuing CDLs as a function of them being paid for, rather than earned. The results are readily seen on the highway, especially the route over the hills between Calgary and Vancouver. One prime example was an accident at Lake Louise in January that involved five trucks with three fatalities. The three fatalities were all riding in the same truck ... which isn't uncommon. -
Tinytim, living in the north you are insulated from the stupidity that is Toronto.
You do not have to speak English to get any license as you can take the written test in almost any language, if test is not available in your language you are entitled to an interpreter. Yes you probably still can buy a class AZ license in Toronto.
Live here and realise the discrimination and other b/s is more one sided than you would believe.
